Don't take your Black Rifle to PoCo!

I work in a gun store, we do our best to educate people on the outward silhouette issue but every day we have hunter's and trap shooters who agree with banning semi autos, I actually had to stop talking to a fellow last week who was dropping off a scope to be mounted. It started with a "what do people need those things for"? to an all out, "they should ban them all". He'll probably start a poor customer service thread here. . If you don't don't believe how divided we really are come spend the day at the shop I work at and be a fly on the wall.

..... Why not run a bunch of copies of the relevant sections of the Criminal Code and Firearms Act, and have them handy when questions are raised ? Highlight the really relevant points, perhaps even an enlarged and "stripped down" version posted on the range wall somewhere ? ... David K.

If I come and spend a day there, will I get to work on my guns? fondle all the toys you have there? And, do I need to wear the uniform of the day, namly UDTs? :dancingbanana:

So one dickwad calls the cops about an AR and the proposed response is to descend upon POCO with assorted ARs and short shotguns to teach those "hunters" a lesson. .

Yep.....that about covers it.

Oh and I also hunt...

Meanwhile, non-involved hunter type shows up at range gets in-your-face treatment for reasons he probably doesn't understand and had nothing to do with. How do you imagine he's going to feel about black rifles after that? .

What is so in your face about going to the range shooting? We have as much if not more right to be there.. Remeber ARs can ONLY be shot at ranges.....

Why create further divisions in the club? Find the dickwad, straighten him out and don't piss off people who had nothing to do with the original problem.
Who exactly is creating the divisions here? I would say it was the Fuddite not the AR shooter. Anyone who KNOWs what is going on would not be pissed off. Those that are pissed off.........well those are the ones targeted by such and action ....so it would have worked!

Wow! This just floors me! I bet it was that same dickwad that wrote a letter to the exec awhile back.

I have never had any grief at Poco, and as some of you know, I have some pretty evil looking guns. It is true though, those old school hunter/benchrest types will be the death of our sport. But rest assured, if my guns are gone, I will make damn sure theirs are too!

Poco as it stands is very black gun/service rifle friendly, but as a side note, this is Murrays last year as Prez. If that "other guy";) takes over as Prez, the club will change radically for the worse.

Now to take my South African Mac10 clone, AR and 14" shottie up there and let her rip!:D

In regards to Sparrow's reply, been there, done that. And no kidding, we can be our own worst enemies, I've been working gunshows with a dealer for some 8 years now, and it's scarey just how ignorant some gun owners can be to their fellow shooters. The trap shooters hate the IPSC shooters hate the black powder shooters hate the skeet shooters, etc. etc. I've always told people "I don't care what you shoot as long as you're out there using it!"
Wether you like / love / agree with it or not is really beside the point, as long as you get out and do something. Just don't pick on your fellow gun owner over their choice of disciplines. Unfortunately there are those in every club that would willingly sell their souls and their co-shooters downstream in order to "save" or protect their interests, without realizing that a house divided cannot stand.
Sad and pathetic to see.

I am pretty sure Murray is running for prez again. He was in my squad at the last club match and there were voting reminders posted at the different stages with his name on them.

Now let's chat about this MAC clone!:dancingbanana:

I hope you are right! I have it on good authority that he has served his limit of terms.

Well, thanks to Strangeday and my welding and fabricating skills, I now have a mag for it!:D And if Mike K does his part in his travels, I may have a few more?;)

Just to remind everybody, apparently this incident was instigated by ONE individual.

This is not a case of PoCo being taken over by "Fudds" and with an agenda of expelling the "Rambo's".

However, some of the suggestions in this thread are very good.

The firearms community is more united than ever. Most of the hunters have woken up to the fact that it is wrong to trade their "sporting arms" for bans on others because their duck guns and deer rifles are next on the list.

Universal registration proved that.

But there are still those out there who still hold to these outdated notions, and if gone unanswered this will embolden them to become irresponsibly vocal and demonstrative in their efforts to drive wedges in the firearms community again.

This cannot be allowed to happen. Any expression of this kind of disunity must be shut down with extreme prejudice. If the individual who perpetrated this incident is not interested in seeing the error in his ways, negative social re inforcement might be necessary in schooling him on the wrongs of ignorantly taking the law into his own hands and causing an incident for which there was no excuse.

If he is a member of PoCo, perhaps this should be put under review ?

It is legitimate for those with firearms licenses and registrations to make use of the Port Coquitlam range, regardless of the types of firearms they are using. The presence of firearms licenses and registrations proves this legitimacy. It is not acceptable to "assume" because a firearm looks unfamiliar, it must be illegal and a LEO investigation must be instigated.

The individual in question could have easily solved his concerns by asking a few questions, he chose not to do that, he brought a degree of harm to the firearms community by his actions and he deserves censure for it.

And the same goes the other way. I don't hunt, and I am not really interested in doing so. But I do believe that hunting is a fundamental Canadian cultural tradition, and a basic human right that must be respected and defended. I would not trade hunting rights for my right to shoot black rifles, and frankly the suggestion would be absurd for the right to keep and bear arms transcends these petty political divisions.

PoCo apparently has a problem with ONE individual, and I think this is where finding the solution must start.

Nothing at all unless the objective is as described below.

set up an ar shoot and with 10 or so on the firing line and do it when most of the old farts are there and that would piss them off

I no longer own a black rifle but my 14" shotgun gets taken to the skeet range occasionally. It causes some eyes to roll and I've even had a couple of guys ask me if it was legal. I've taken the time to explain to them that it's treated under the laws just the same as their fancy o/u. I always let anyone who shows an interest a chance to put a few rounds through it and frequently the offer gets taken up.

Like it or not there are more hunters and non-black gun shooters than otherwise. Why risk turning any of them against black gun owners? Get them on side with the facts.

I'd still be in favour finding the guy who actually called the cops and banning him from the club. Him you can do without.

Amen

Got one like that here in GP. A few weeks ago Max Owner heard this guy whinging how his kids were offended by the noise my scary black rifle makes...

Noise at a gun range?

Makes me marvel about his impeccible taste in chosing a suitable entertainment venue for his kids!

Also worthy of despicable note is the wholesale lack of spine to personally confront you with the complaint.

May all you particular clubhouse vermin suddenly find themselves sandbagged by those around them, until they decidedly understand the value of mutual support.

Because, bottom f&ckin line, if I lose my black rifles I will make it my mission in life to see the elmers lose everything from their squirrel rifles to their coon-skin caps.
