Gunsmiths that you recommend

Is it just me, or has anyone else encountered a high percentage of crappy gunsmiths here in western Canada? I've run into 3 so far. They ship stuff back to you with only half the requested stuff done, or do things not requested without permission. Then you have to ship it to some one else just to get the job done properly.

It's just you. :d

Hello everyone,

I am looking to have a couple guns serviced/looked at as they were sitting in storage for over 15 years and was recently passed down to me. The years vary...one is from 1960 another one is from 1979 plus others (Still in the process of getting more information).

I am new to this community as i just received my licenses not too long ago.

Can anyone recommend a gunsmith near Durham Region in Ontario ?

I am very cautious to fire these rifles and would like a professional opinion.

Thanks

Karl Bebar is in Bradford and has been a smith for 40 years plus. He doesn't have much of a machine shop last I checked as he's sort of retired but he still does work for fun.

Casey at tactical ordanance is a class act and does great work.

Every smith I've worked with or had work done has been top notch. In my opinion it's all on how you communicate what you want to get done. Most are swamped so you have to tell them, tell them that you told them etc.

Can anyone recommend a good gunsmith with pistol experience, specifically M&P's? I'd like to get the Apex Trigger kit installed and would rather a professional do it, and I also need to get it investigated for light primer strikes anyhow. Don't mind shipping it somewhere.

Wow, I just read through this entire thread and can't believe that Nick Makinson out of Komoka ON (just outside London) hasn't even been mentioned once!!! This guy trained in England and could build you a custom made sxs shotgun or double rifle from scratch. It is March 1, 2017 and I just visited him yesterday to have a shotgun fitting. The only bad thing is that now I know that all of my shotguns are too short for me!! His work is jaw dropping...That's all I can say. I could never afford a custom made shotgun, don't get me wrong, but he can do any gunsmithing work you need. Also, he's 75 now so not making anything from scratch anymore anyway. Just stock work and repairs, etc. Google Nick Makinson and you'll find him.

hey I'm looking to get my shotgun blued and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations. i live in southern ontario.
