have people finally lost interest in the VZ 858?

I was going to call BS on that, but there is in on EE for 1950 right now. First time I've noticed one for under 2k. I'll never sell my CZ. Wish I bought it sooner, as I paid 1k used but in like new condition.
Yeah, I've actually seen one or two Tavors TAR-21s priced as low as $1,750. The new X95s have really depressed prices considering you can also get the 9mm conversion kit for the X95 (but not the TAR-21). I think the reality is that the majority of black and red rifles have come down in price, selection is at an all-time high and there are a lot of people looking to dump their toys for cash. So good time to buy - not necessarily sell (unless you have something really unique and sought after).

You missed them does not mean they do not exist. Mine went at under $1700 and surprise surprise, there were still low balls coming in. Good thing is I was able to reinvest the money in something that can actually shoot straight.

It is a very bizarre situation that these days a savage axis can go beyond $800 , a 58 parts gun with a new receiver can go up to $1500 and tax. More over, there are ppl buying.(impulse buy mostly)

Well the price only shot up for the used market due to the old "no more being imported" issue. Look at those Mosin's with the side folding bayonet. 1000$ retail, they sell out and a week later people wanting 1500$.

I bought my 858 ohh 5 or 6 years ago from Frontier for 729$. Sold it to my boss for 650$ figuring bah I'll get another one eventually. Less than a year later price shoots up to retarded levels. I can't justify paying double what I did originally now.

I am however hoping with the WR762 version freely available, it will knock the used market prices back to reality. Eventually.

I got a Cz858 for many reasons. It's extremely well made, some unique features, has history, shoots cheap ammo, was the real deal. I got a CSA vz58 too but it just wasn't as historical as the actual 858, and neither is the west rifle version.

I sold my cz858 last year and missed it dearly. Just bought the restricted version, I only shoot at the range anyway and the shorter barrel looks better. The 3000 x39 in my basement have been very patient.

I really hadn't been paying attention to the tavor for awhile. Always too far out of my price range and I didn't think gun prices in Canada came down.

The 858 got over hyped , and folks jumped on the band wagon and now want to get rid of the rifle . There are lots of other options out there for not much more money . Plus with these rifles being on the RCMP hit list ; you never know what is going to happen .

pretty sure most semi auto rifles are on "their list"
for a while people were paying crazy prices $1400 - $1500
now not so much, to be honest it looks like prices are starting to come back towards the 1k mark.
I think guys with the rifles priced at 1500, 1600, and even some at $1700 have missed the boat on profit taking.
just my observation.

Vz58 is garbage for $1200 +

I bought it for 700. Which was alright. Paying $550 for czh2003 was even better.

The rifles are garbage for the $1200 price point but they are fantastic rifles for $600-700

It sucks for the guys who spent more than orginal cost

Yup. Price gouging at its best. Who knows when they are gonna discover more hidden in shipping containers. But at this point it is game over for the vz58. You guys are right, we have more nr options than before and I think no one should spend stupid amount of money on this 58 junk.

I got one of the first CZH2003 Sports (restricted) when they first came into the country. Think I paid $595 for it. A fun little rifle to shoot. Mine's not going anywhere.

Auggie D.

sure they will always sell a few to the handful that have to have them. However before the the price gouge they were selling them by the containers full.
Also did not Wolverine at one time have plans to have manufactured a flat top railed version of the 858?
I forget what it was to be called, obviously somone looked at the market and made a smart bussiness decesion and shelved the project.
The price took a big jump when Wolverine sold off the container they had tied up with the RCMP.
I can understand that, in the end they had a lot of time and money tied up in that shipment and had to try and recoup a small part of their loss.
Afterwards the rest of the dealers jumped on the band wagon and rode the hype that these guns might never be seen again.
I think its obvious people have realized this is not the case.
of course all of this is just one mans opinion and should be taken as that.

The prices today are ridiculous in comparison to other available NRs, but my CSA VZ58 is still my favourite rifle. I was lucky enough to pick up a unfired rifle for $800 in 2012. My Tavor is a conversation starter at the range, but I will take the VZ58 over it any day.

vz58 was and remains a superior rifle to the AK-AKM series from which the 81 is derived.

You will likely find this out the first time you try to clear a jam on the 81 and or clean it etc etc

Those that have handled the 58s versus the AKs will be aware of this and how the differences in the receiver design result in this being the case.

Real problem here is that because of the silly firearm laws in this country most people have not had a chance to really use and evaluate the AK design.

There seem to be some very optimistic and frankly wide eyed views and ideas about what the 81 will be.

Perhaps some posters here will successfully convince a few people otherwise and they will unwisely sell off their Czech rifles so those posters trashing the CZs
can pick them up cheaper or in the first place because they missed out the first time. ;)
