I love my GSG 1911 in 22lr!!!

I've shot around 30,000 rounds through mine so far.. Its been 10,000 no cleaning and it still worked.. it was dirty and some what sticky but works well..

how is the finish holding up? i heard that the finish is kind of weak.

I dropped mine from 6 ft out of my safe it landed on the metal edge of the safe door it chipped it a tiny bit like a pin size chip.. I also dropped it another time from the same safe and it bent the beaver tail I just bent it back and it still works just fine... The finish isnt that bad just normal wear and tear untill I dropped it 2 times :D

Twice today at the range, when I put a charged mag in, pressed the slide stop, slide closed half-way and it jammed with a round being chambered diagonally. I assumed it was a mag issue. Took out the mag, released the slide and it flew out. Still after about 600 rounds, everything that's been chambered correctly has fired except for these 2 rounds. Pretty good for a .22 shooting bulk ammo.

Another member was shooting a .45 beside me, damn that's loud! It screwed me a up a couple times as I was shooting. Lost my concentration.

My groups are getting better, lots of progress with my little .22!

Will try Winchester Super X and CCI Stingers next time out...

Thanks for the temptation. I'm definitely interested now. DAMMIT!

Ask your seller/dealer if he can install a fully adjustable (windage/elevation) rear-sight.
That would immensely help.
The factory rear-sight is jammed in place with a hex-screw (Allen key provided) and when untightened the whole sight slides (more or less freely) from side-to-side. Very hard to sight-in properly.

I would gladly pay a gunsmith to install a fully adjustable (Novak-cut type) rear-sight. Installations usually need a bit of milling and/or filing.

NovakSights.com tell me that they will be coming out with a rear-sight specially made for the GSG (ATI) 1911 in two-three months.

But they do NOT sell to individuals or retailers in Canada.

I like the 3 dot sights. I find it difficult to see the Novak "cut-type" black sight in poor lighting-my range is like a dungeon. The factory sights on my CZ75 and CZ97 are a little better than these. They are supposed to glow when charged with light, but it lasts about 15-20 seconds, then it's gone. Not sure what types of sights are out there, but I'm doing ok with what I have. I'm just learning, when I get good, I'll fool around with stuff like this.

Overall, I still love my GSG 1911. It does appear that the black finish is quite thin, however. Like I've previously read. The finish on my CZ's is much better. Then again when you pay 2x the $... GSG is great for what it was designed for, a good, reliable, budget conscious rimfire pistol.

I have seen some Novak-cut types with white-dots (on the Brownells site).
Yes the black finish is extremely thin. As I was trying to put a cable lock (whose cable was not long enough to allow a little leeway) the lock scratched the grip (right by the magazine release button). I don't know if it can be covered. I believe the finish is a Parkerized matte finish.

The Winchester Super X 40g CP RN high velocity ammo I bought is complete garbage! 10/30 rounds either didn't feed, stove piped, jammed, etc. I ended up giving the other 70 to a club member who has a .22 rifle. If you have the GSG, don't buy this. I read on an earlier post in this thread that someone else had problems with this ammo. So far I had great reliability with:

CCI Blazer 40g LRN
Federal Gold Medal Target 40g LRN
Federal 36g HV CP (Bulk)-shot a whole box of 525-no issues!

I have CCI Stingers that I haven't tried yet. Stay away from the Winchester! A total headache!

Here's 2 targets I shot with Federal 36g HV CP Bulk ammo, 20 rounds on each, 1 from 22ft and 25ft. 19 total hits on each page I think... I'm sure it was me and not the ammo. What do you think? Shooting a lot better than when I started. Shot about 700 now.

Lucky you, we only shoot 20 yards.
However it's in the plans to install/buy/build automated target changers.
If they would but let me, we could install a cheap system with pulleys and laundry lines .......:p
and, yes, laundry pins even............

Shooting at 60ft for a beginner wouldn't help me that much. I think the length of the indoor range is around 60ft. I've asked several members and nobody is sure. 5,10,25 has markings. I'm working close-then moving out. It's fun. I've taken 2 co-workers to the range to shoot my GSG. They seem to have fun too.

My GSG likes the cheap Federal 525rd brick ammo, good for my wallet. Everyone says how good the Federal Gold Medal Target is, but it's more expensive and bare lead. Think I'll stick with the clean stuff.

I'm thinking a good cleaning and lubrication to make it slide freely. Also try different ammo as well. The way mine was handling the Winchester I thought it was malfunctioning. It was the ammo. Tried another brand-perfect.

I've been replacing the buffer quite a few times now. I'm trying to find a cheap alternative to the original buffer. Blue Line is aware of the problem and is actively looking for an alternative at this time. They sent me out a new buffer with a nicely written note explaining the situation and hand signed the note. Very Impressed with their service. I've gone to Spaenaur and bought two types of washers. the one was a regular washer and it was slightly too thick and would not cycle properly. The other is a red Silicone washer and it works quite well. Although, it still needs replacing after 500 rounds or so. Still trying other options. Will let you know what I find. Also, the finish is quite good for a paint on aluminum surface but it will scratch off easily if your rough with your firearm. A good DuraCoat may be in the future. I'm also interested in some Steel sights instead of the plastic ones just not sure which brands would fit. I've heard that's it's an off size dove tail. Any info on this would be helpful. :)
