M40 Family - Who owns one?

Got my new rifle back yesterday. Not a true M40a5, but I had the stock so I had it built how I wanted it.

Old 7 digit receiver, new 24" Benchmark barrel, MDT pieces and a 6-24 Bushnell Match Pro.

Haven't had a chance to shoot yet, hope to get out this weekend.

Very nice. Well done without a ton of stuff hanging off it. - dan

Snuck away from work early to try it out, it was haunting me all day.

Not much daylight left but quick and dirty zero @ 200 yds. Only shot at steel so far but results were good. Fine tune next time, I'm really looking forward to pushing it out further. Time to retire my old coyote rifle I think.

So real redfield but it was just spray painted to give it that colour :(

Easy fix. Will just take a few hours. Dot3 brake fluid. Thats how I brought that S&B scope back from a rattle can camo job. You can see my before and after pics on this thread. Doesn’t damage anything on the scope. Just let it sit about 30 minutes, with gloves on give it a quick brush ( tooth brush) to help it disolve the paint. Keep repeating. In 3-4 hours you’ll be back to stock. Rinse it off after and then oil it ( G96). Good as new. Cost effective and you can do it in your house without headaches/tons of ventilation or your neighbours calling in a possible meth lab.

A bunch of smear stocks are available on Mcmillan stock website. They ship to Canada directly. Just FYI

It arrived a few days ago, and is awesome. When they advertise it as having blemishes they aren't kidding. Lots of mesh showing and fingerprints in the molded color. I love it, now I need to sell one of my other stocks so I can use it.

Awesome to hear! Could you share some photos with us?

The site I usually use (imgur) hasn't allowed me to upload photos lately, and actually kicked off everything I'd put on my account for the last couple months.

The cgn photo upload feature worked for me a couple times but I haven't had success since.

Just ordered a PT&G bottom metal, hope it fits. I really wish they inletted these stocks for a regular bdl.

Ordered a PTG M40a1 bottom metal set.

Been working on it a little trying to fit everything, what a pain. Whoever decided ditching the regular Rem 700 one-piece was a good idea was an idiot.

There's a small screw with a sort of a t nut to hold the front of the trigger guard. The stock is inletted for a front screw but I'm going to have to hog out some material to get it to work, then cut the rear edge of the floorplate as its too long.

Is anyone here willing to snap a couple pics of their bottom metal to help me out? I'm really hesitant to start cutting anything.....

I've read that some original stocks had an insert in the stock to screw the front trigger guard fastener into, but the way McMillan inletted this stock I can't see that as an option. The screw and t nut that came with the PTG set interferes with the magazine box, I'm at a loss.

Any help is appreciated.
