M40 Family - Who owns one?

Finally received the m40a5 build by GA Precision. It is much heavier than M24. Overall feels very nice.

Nice collection!!!! GAP uses authentic PGWDTI M40 forward accessory rails on their builds, not airsoft junk.
It was quite the process to get selected for that contract with the USMC. We had the rail on a rifle that we were demoing to SOCOM in Yuma, there were people there from all branches. The head of the M40 project contacted us and we submitted samples, and we had a pile of other companies rip off our design. I had one USMC Sniper request one for his 'personal rifle', in advance of the contract award. This was going well until he forgot he wasn't on his hotmail account, and was using his email at his father in laws company, Iron Brigade Armory. We ended up having to prove to the USMC when we first made this item, and they picked us as it was clear we were first by a long shot to produce such an item.
After the contract award, we had three 2112 armorers come up from Quantico for training on how to install the lower part of the rail. Awesome dudes, it was a lot of fun. I made fixtures for their milling machines, wrote the program and procedures and sent them on their way.
The three guys were very good poker players apparently, they went to Club Regent in Winnipeg, and got banned because they won a substantial amount of money.

It's pretty cool to be watching news footage, or a documentary of USMC Snipers and see something you designed and manufactured!!

And you just made this thread a legitimate classic!

Quick question. I bought my A4 with NV bridge second hand. Looks legitimate and bedded in professionally. I don’t believe it’s a knock off. It looks exactly like the one on the GAP rifle pictures. Mat grey primer looking. ( last one at the end of the photo). How would I be able to confirm it’s a real PGW one?

Thanks.IMG_1639.jpeg

For anyone looking to build M40A5 clones looks like the shooting center in Red Deer has the surefire MB-762SSL/RE brake in stock

Just a heads up. I have that brake as per the original M40A5 and as seen on Wayne’s GAP M40A5. You will need to have your barrel modified for it. The barrel needs to thin down near the muzzle or it won’t work.

My clone uses a gen2 5R milspec. So not willing to have the profile changed. I may at a later date buy a barreled action that is a true clone and will have the barrel modified for that flash hider. I mention this because it requires extra commitment for an even closer M40A5 clone.

wow!!!! That's an amazing collection!!! We have the rails hard anodized, with an industrial process. It's really really hard, not like most cosmetic black. You can rub a file on it and it won't touch it, feels like hardened steel actually. I've never seen one of the knockoffs in person to see if there is a tell, but if you compare to your Coyote folder rail, you should see similarities. If you look at the area between the two picatinny rail sections, that would be the most complicated area that they would have trouble replicating. I designed special carbide tooling that I had made up that cuts the bottom facet of the pic rail, the slight undercut, the vertical face under the rail, the small flat that transitions down at a 45 and the flat on top of the screws, all in one shot. This cutter replaced 4 cutters and allowed it to be done in one pass. I think the most likely difference in a knockoff would be the lack of this cutter and weird cuts in this area.

This is absolutely awesome to hear such backstory from you! Yes, GAP is still using authentic parts and building procedures as per USMC spec, since they employ real USMC 2112s working on M40s.

Still would like to know who got my rifle after all these years. You would as the MST 100 is serial with the entire rifle serial number and it was a actual USMC return stock with certificate. Probably my biggest gun sale regret.

damn....that would be the deal of life for the guy. Do you still have any photos of that rifle?

Thanks. I compared the two last night. It’s a legitimate PGW part. Exactly as you described. I bought the A4 stock second hand but it has the sniper fill and the bottom of the night vision bridge was professionally bedded into the stock. Being a legitimate PGW part would be consistent with the choices made by the previous owner. I was nice to confirm it’s the real part. Thank you for the detailed info on the part. Much appreciated.

On a side note. I also have a tan PGW chassis for the Coyote in the photo with the desert McMillan A5. Picked it up on the EE. I like both the A5 and the PGW chassis. I know some have been critical of the chassis. For a no nonsense military grade chassis that you can run a truck over… it’s excellent. Plus it along with the spiral fluted barrel give the PGW coyotes an iconic look. I like it. Those two coyotes are on my never sell list.

That’s one heck of a reproduction M40A5 ( although more of a new build than a reproduction). I like my tribute version even though it’s a disguised Gen 2 5R milspec. But I think if going full out, your GAP rifle is the way to go. Beautiful rifle.

The M24 and AI ( AT?) aren’t too shabby either! 😃

Thanks! Yes it is a 2013 dated AT. I also have a M40a1 clone being built by GAP at the moment, which completes my bolt action rifle collection for now:D

My 14 yr old has decided my m40 is his. Got out for a couple hrs today before dark but nothing was moving. Haven't seen a lot of deer this fall in our area, just a lot of truck hunters cruising the grids.

I got to bring my a1 out of the safe too, was a good afternoon. Usually it's just my boys going out and leaving me behind at home!
