Maccabee Defense SLR information and updates

Exactly how often do you pop open your AR's? Mine don't get opened up that often, except for an occasional cleaning. I agree it certainly isn't the best answer, but it isn't the end of the world, either. To me,anyway.

So you get 470mm measured through the bore from muzzle to the bolt face? I can't tell much from the picture, there is too much fisheye.

That is the $64,000 question, isn't it?

yep its a few mm over 47cm
i actually pop open my ars quite often, after each range trip, having a screw is a really dumb idea

I store the bolt out and sometimes separate the receivers for transport. So multiple times per range trip

I actually just cancelled my preorder due to the bolt thing eating away at me. They confirmed on Instagram they wouldn't be changing it for the first run but will look into for the future, so I figure I'll just wait. I don't want to buy a half assed receiver set for top dollar. I can wait to get what I want. Meanwhile I'll keep collecting parts as they go on sale.

Xcr has a bolt holding the barrel on/in. I see that as a much bigger issue than a take down bolt imo.

I am looking for a light hunting rifle though, not a lead hose that requires a strip down regularly because of round count.

That is a good point for bolt removal, on an AR it doesn't matter for storage, but on a NR rifle that is a form of safe storage. It won't stop me from getting a pre order, but a pin would be a lot nicer.

I snapped the head off my XCR-L pin.
It was a PITA to repair.

Would there be any issues,if the take down pin, wiggles loose, while shooting?
Will it have to be XCR ed in place ( locktited) Lol

I can't see it being any worse than the wiggle between the upper and lower on an AR with take down pins.

Barrel coming loose on an XCR makes the difference between killing or wounding an animal which is not acceptable to me

I meant, what would happen if the takedown bolt, came completely out, while shooting.
On the Macabee,

After reading through this whole thread, there are some things that stand out. Everybody that's complaining about the price, and claiming it doesn't cost that much to machine, and it's an NR tax, etc. etc. ad nauseum. Why is it that when we see a new NR black rifle on the market everybody has something to complain about. Why does this only happen with the "poodle shooters"?

When a new Fierce action, or a new Cadex action, or even an ATRS action comes out, you don't see people lining up in thread after thread to complain about the price. "It's obviously a NR tax. They're just gouging us! It's not that much different than a Remington 700 action and I can get one of those for $700! How do they justify the price they're charging when Savage can do it for under $600?" Rant/Sarcasm off

WOW! Are we ever a bunch of whiny B!@ches.

I think we’re all just mad that these are the lengths we have to go to build an ar, and our southern neighbors can build one for what a norinco costs up here. You look at what you could buy down there for what this bare receiver costs and it’s frustrating. But that’s the world we live in. I bought in, hopefully MacDef makes it worth the money. Time will tell.

I applaud them for coming out with a NR receiver set, however I only have one concern. That is the captive screw or mechanism that holds the upper and lower together. There is speculation that people feel that this might pose issues in the future due to people being over zealous when tightening the screw or loosing it all together.

I share this concern, as I'm one of those guys that go by the moto "stick with what you know". I hope that MaccaBee post some info or pictures to either dispel or confirm the concerns people are writing and #####ing about.

Personally, I would prefer a captive pin like the AR-15 or even something like what HK uses. Other than that, I am happy this their design.

I might like a captive pin as well, but we don't know for sure that that wasn't the difference between Restricted and Non-restricted. But we're talking about a FRIGGIN UNICORN here. Two years ago guys were dreaming of something like this, and lamenting how it would never happen. People said they'd be willing to pay stupid amounts of money to be able to take their AR's out to shoot gophers/coyotes, and not to have to go to the range when they wanted to shoot. Well, ATRS came out with the Modern Varminter, and all I've seen is a lot of bashing because of price, because it's side charging, because it doesn't take all the cheap and plentiful aftermarket AR parts, that we want it to. So now we've got something on the market that was, up until a very short time ago, a UNICORN. And here we sit worrying about whether the horn screws on or pins on!

Just talked to one of the guys I work with. His range membership for a year is $2400. He's excited as heck right now. He loves his AR, loves shooting it, but the range membership just to shoot it is killing him. Now there's a possibility that he can get an AR style rifle, that he doesn't have to take only to the range, for the same price, or less, than what he would pay just for a range membership for a year.

As for the possible "issues" I'll take my chances. I've taken apart enough AR's over the years that I can probably deal with any issues that come my way. Maybe not - I guess time will tell. All I know is it's less money that Robinson Arms charged people to do their beta testing.

If it strips, drill and tap in a steel sleeve or something like a vlier locking pin and insert, perhaps there is enough meat to even drill a takedown pin into it. Who knows until they have one in hand. Ideally the AR platform should not be restricted, until that day, I'll take this.

We're assuming the walls of the receiver are thick enough to handle something with a diameter larger than a 4mm screw, which they very well may not be.

And frankly, for the top of the spectrum price they are charging the end user shouldn't be expected to have to modify the receiver to such an extent.

And don't take this as a complaint on the price, $1000 is understandable for a top tier product.

It would be great if CSC or TNA could post a pic of this area of the receiver. They're happy to take everyones money, I don't think a little transparency is too much to ask.

This is starting to feel like bad business, taking deposits on a prototype that doesn't even have a finalized plan or production schedule, let alone an accurate description of the product from the designer/manufacturer.

Lets not get carried away with calling it bad business. Might have been an oversight on their part that so many of us would find the take down screw as a huge surprise. At the end of day we have Canadians stepping and making cool products within the tight boundaries that are our gun laws. As long as we keep criticism a positive tone I have faith they will eventually come around.

How does anything they've done so far translate into bad business?

They've been open from the beginning that this is still in the pre-production developmental stage. They have made it clear that a few changes may be made before the final production model is decided on.

They have decided to offer us stripped receivers FIRST. Something no other manufacturers have given us. AND they only charged a miniscule amount of money to secure a pre-order. They didn't start taking full price up front like required to pre-order another NR rifle (BCL).

They could have soaked us full price for completed rifles first and made us wait for receiver sets. But instead they listened and offered what we asked for.

In other words they aren't reaching into our pockets to fund their R&D and manufacturing.

They are listening to us and giving us what we have been asking for.

PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT'S BAD BUSINESS ABOUT THIS?
