My homemade $50 Canadian 10" gong and stand

Will your saw horse tip over when you hit the plate?
I found them to be very light and tippy.

Keep 2/3rds of the plate below mid-height of the saw horse to lower the center of gravity.

If you have access to a welder, you can tack on a 1"-2" (or whatever) length of 3/4" diameter pipe on the bottom of each leg and run some rebar stakes through 'em to anchor it on uneven ground. :)

Why are gongs so much more in Canada? Lack of competition? Steel can't be that much more compared to states.

A variety of factors play in here. The fact you can ship a crate of goods across the US for nearly the same price as 1/4 of the same goods in Canada, cost of labour, cost of materials is higher, etc, etc.

We're keenly aware that our competition is south of the border when it comes to gongs so we do our best to make the prices on par or better where we can while still keeping the lights on. ;) With all of that said we can offer pretty decent pricing on gongs and with us you're supporting a Canadian business that is a supporting business to this forum :d.

Single AR500 8"gong

4 pack of 8" AR500 gongs

All shipping is $11.50 flat rate Canada wide on these targets, which can be combined with other purchased goods off of the site.

Good stuff. I built mine like this.
2x saw horse joints = $5
2x 10ft 2x4 legs(cut in half) = $5
1x 8ft 1x2 crossbeam (cut in half) = $2
2x 3ft length plastic coated 1/4 cable = $6
4x Screw down cable connectors =$4
Total $22
When the legs and crossbeam get shot/fragged out you unscrew them and put in new ones.
Drill two holes in the crossbeam and thread the cable through so the plate doesn't slide around. Attach cable onto itself with connectors.
Loop cable through holes on target and attach to itself.
I use 10 ft(5 ft each side) legs as I found 8 ft(4 ft each side)was not enough with the size steel I use.

This is pretty much exactly what I did but I find the 2x4s to be pretty heavy and cumbersome to drag around (I don't want to permanently set them up). I'm going to give the metal saw horse idea a try.

This is what my target stands are made of. They are cheap, portable and quick to set up. I set mine up in 35 seconds for the picture.

All the parts can be bought from any hardware store but mine came from home Home Depot

Parts You will need
4-1/2" pipe t's
2-1/2"x close nipples you will need 6 if your 45s aren't threaded
2- 1/2" 45's
2-1/2x3 nipples
5-1/2"x5' sticks of rebar. Home Depot sells the pre cut coated ones in 3,4 and 5' lengths and they all work but I like a longer top bar.
I used rubber mat cut in to strips bolted on.
Steel targets are from jcsteel targets in the states, 3/8s ar500 is plenty for what I shoot.

A bad iPhone shot of the bracket.

And another bad iPhone shot of it set up in 35 seconds.

Light steel plates shot with heavy hitting billets have tipped my 3' set up over but I've never had any problems with the set up shown.

What is the cost for this and did you have to Thread the pipe yourself ?

This if your into rebar.

This is a cool post I'm glad people are sharing ideas. It all depends on where you live really. My target I hide off to the side of the road and tell friends where it is if they want to use it. It's made from 2x4s and I hang my gong from rubber bungie cords. Some people may want to be mobile and take their stuff with them which is fair enough. I find chain heavy and if you hit it you have a long walk to to fix it........... if you can. Cheap light bungie cords work great.

If I were into to the mobile stream lined route I'd do the rebar and last stand kit.

Scroll to the end this is my gong set up. 2x4 and bungie cords. Keep this post going always looking for cool stand ideas and keep Canadian steel targets in Canada! When it warms up I'll take some pics of my 3 inch ipsc hostage swinger target I built for the 350 yard line. The max at our gun range. I have a short drive to shoot out to as far as the eye can see if I want to go further.

This is my setup. It is all 5/8'rod and the red white corrugated plastic from Home Depot rock and flash so you can see a hit when you are over 600 yard distance.

$80.94 for two pieces of moulded plastic. Great idea love the product but to rich for my blood.

80.94???? Don't think so. 39.99 US but what ever. The black iron works just as well and is probly cheaper, just throwing options out there for the guys that aren't to mechanically/carpentry savy.

Did you add it to the cart ? Cause if shipping to Winnipeg comes out to $80.94 US I highly doubt you got free shipping to the Yellow knife. This was the actual cost to my door. just saying so other people don't go get a shock.
