Wow, 280, I'm impressed. Hopefully I'll be able to shoot a match north of Calgary before my pension runs out. You going to Homestead June 7th / 8th?
Cheers
Electronic targets and the kit to run it all aren't any cheaper and not nearly as accurate as we'd like. We're fooling with them at Homestead. Great for a quarter chunk of wash tub at 900. Plus, who the hell want to piss with a friggin tablet in the sun all day. Keep it simple I say. What's going to happen when you got 50 shooters trying to figure what's up with the non-functioning system at the Prov's or other such affair. If electronics were that good; Raton, Phoenix, Scaremento, Camp Perry, Connuaght, Buttner would all have had them a long time ago.
Cheers
Sounds to me like another plinker range. Check out the RCMP Range Construction Manual for an Out Door Gallery Range. Why don't you all put target butts in? Then you just level some dirt at the firing points you want and you're in business. Who the hell wants to see another hill and lake every 100 meters deal. Sounds like Genesee all over again but father out.
Cheers

Sure hope some one can do something be hide this... Weather its old fashion or high tech. I herd of these target cams with apps for the i phone ect. They run on batteries? We are in the middle of nowhere so no power. Ideas are most welcome. only want to do it once and since this is our first try I am sure there will be lots of oops along the way. Might want to stick with old school for 1000m then high tech for 1100, 1200,1300,1400,1500 and 1600. That way lest traffic down range and the F class folks might be happy.

Seems like I need to quit my job to be able to attend some meetings and sort this thing out. Then we'll be able to run some service rifle matches.

I spent 15 years chasing around north and central Alberta trying got get something started north of Homestead. I attended several club meetings at different locations, got onto the AFSS as an APRA full bore rep, and on and on but it just never seemed to go anywhere. From Ft Mac to Genesee to Smoky Lake to Provost to Czar to Wildwood. All of the locations I visited seemed happy with the berm and gong set-ups and were pretty much reluctant to shift the venues toward match style shooting. As a matter of fact, after expounding F Class to the northern shooters I ran into, very few showed any interest in Match Shooting, only one person ever came down and got involved. So you see 280, I just can't get that enthusiastic. After all, with the number of shooters around, there aren't that many that would shoot formal target rifle anyway, good range or bad. I believe what they'll do at Edson will be just what the local shooters want. No more no less.
Cheers
I don't think you understand what butts are.
if you have shot matches of this type and understand target butts please get on board with these guys right away and explain what needs to be done.

Yes, I shoot with Longshot, and Gunnerlove in the BCRA service rifle provincials at Chilliwack. I'll try to get something figured out for us. The current range is a total POS, and I'd hate to have this new one ruined as well by turning it into a plinker range. People pay good money to shoot matches, and money is needed to keep things maintained.
TooFar, if you check out the APRA website at www.albertarifle.com, then User Groups, then Fullbore Target Rifle, at the bottom they have a short video that illustrates how things are set up and working at Homestead. If you have time, drive down on a match weekend and have a look around. We'd be more than willing to spend some time with you. Better yet, bring a rifle and take part in the New Shooter Clinic. I think the next one is July 13th. It's free and a bunch of fun. Plus, you really see how things work with lots of help to get you started.
Cheers
