Hey Father, I ended up putting in a lighter spring from a hair clip my wife gave me, what a huge difference! I understand better what you were doing with the trigger work now.

Glad you joined the action Adriel, enjoyed the video too! Keep us updated.

Here's a little teaser of the finished look. I'll be pillaring and, hopefully, bedding the action and trigger guard plate in the next days, so I'll wait till after that for the final coat.

Looks good! You've really made something nice out of the original stock.

I just finished pillaring the action (ended up using the lamp threaded tubes because they threaded into the wood very securely) as well as bedding the trigger guard plate. Tape your trigger guard plate so you give yourself a little bit of room. Don't be like me and skim bed it and have it too tight.

Yeah, when listening to the vid I was thinking about it, taping the side just like you would the side of the recoil lug. Hope you can still manage to remove it!

ah ah I thought the same thing lately but we just moved to our new house so it's pretty much on hold... I did the pillars and mounted it back even if it isn't completely done and shot a couple of rounds on my parents land, even with the ####tiest rest and wind it still is not bad accuracy wise. Can't wait to finish it but the house is gonna take a lot of time.

This morning I fashioned a trigger return spring from a safety pin for my second NS522. I took it over to a friend's place and fired several rounds through it before I handed it off to him. "Be careful of that trigger," I said, "It's very light." "Oops," said he, as the first round went downrange a bit before he'd intended it to. Neither of us has a trigger gauge, but we both agree that the pull is probably measured in ounces, single-digit ones at that. As I wrote here before, the beauty of this safety pin trigger spring mod is that one can buy 50 safety pins for three or four dollars and have plenty of latitude for experimentation as to shape and size of the spring. If you want to use this rifle for paper-punching, the safety pin trigger spring mod is the way to go.

Someone asked about a picture of the safety pin trigger spring mod. On the bottom left is an example of the first (smaller-sized) safety pin I used. It turned out to be too small and would not hold tension as it should. At the bottom middle and right are two of the trigger springs I fashioned from the too small safety pin(s). At the top left is an example of the larger-sized safety pin I eventually settled on. I have had no problems with the two springs I've made from the larger size of safety pin(s). At top right is the original Norinco trigger spring. (No pictures of the springs fashioned from the larger safety pin(s) because they are still in the guns, but you get the idea.) Note: while you cannot see it very well in this picture, the original Norinco trigger spring has four coils, while the safety pins have two coils. This accounts for the lighter trigger feel.

Here are two contenders: at the top, NS522 topped with a BSA (older, Japanese built model) 24X target scope. Bottom: NS522 with a Leupold 3-9X33 rimfire EFR scope. Both rifles are glass and pillar bedded, both have been drilled and tapped for allen headed set screws to adjust trigger over-travel and sear engagement. The upper rifle has been D&T for Weaver style scope bases, while the lower rifle received an "Accuracy package" from noted upstate NY gunsmith J.C. Blauvelt many years ago. Both guns also have the safety pin trigger spring mod!

I punched 20 groups with my NS522 this weekend. Plenty just a touch above .5" at 50 yards, with a few under. It really liked SK Standard and SK Rifle Match.

Got the 522 out with some handguns as well today. It was blistering hot with a strange swirling wind, but it was a pretty light wind, not too much issue waiting it out.

I shot 5x5shot groups at 50yrs with Peters brown box, Dynapoint GT and Remington Target. Nothing too impressive, all hovering just over or just under 1 inch, with the Dynapoints in last place. Didn't bother with the CCI Blazer I had.

I didn't have enough Eley club for 5x5 groups, but I did have a half box of RWS Rifle Match. I picked this stuff up a while back and had really never tried it.

Here is how it performed in order I shot the groups in inches:

Top Right: 0.693
Bottom Right: 1.207
Bottom Left: 0.525
Top Left: 0.183
Centrer: 0.535

AVG : .629

So far I have justed bedded it with devcon and smoothed the bolt out.
I will get on this trigger mod and see what I can do with a lighter pull!

I hope to get a hold of some more Eley and RWS soon. I have never tried Lapua...pretty pricey

Nice range report, Loyalist. I think you'll be quite happy with the trigger spring mod. The trigger pull on one of mine is light, and the other is scary light.
