Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

Minni your 2 Beautiful rifles , are they the American versions , the stock are stunning compared with the Canadian version I have seen .

Don't get me wrong I really like the stock on my rifle , yes the wood is a bit soft , looks like the same wood used to make the M305's wood stocks of years gone by .

I think mine was made from an Ikea pallet.

I had my Blauvelt-tuned NS-522 out at the range last weekend. Once more wearing a Japanese-made BSA 24x target scope, the 522 was destroying Rolaids tablets taped to the target board at 50 yds with boring regularity. Needing a tougher challenge, I soon found one. I began shooting at the staples left behind when previous users of the range had taken down their targets. Trying to hit an ordinary staple at 50 yds with a .22 is not as easy as it sounds, and I'll freely admit that I missed one far more often than I hit one. But I did manage to hit quite a few. It is a challenge to hit them, but there are plenty of them to shoot at on our local range, and they don't cost much either. Give it a try...you might just like it!

Interesting...I didn't know Boyd's offered a stock for the JW-15. I don't know if they'd do a 522 stock considering how few were built. Hmmmm....

Of all the write ups that I have seen out there, Father has the most descriptive and worthy modifications to follow.
I think that I have done most of the mods that Father has put out here. I have had a lot of fun following this and I look at it as a work in progress. These rifles are very accurate when the ruff kinks are taken out.
I do not know at what “lbs” my trigger is but it is a lot better after smoothing out the surfaces that are working together.
I have even gotten to the point that I purchased a second NS522 as a backup parts supply when needed.
I do not know if there any NIB left.
This is a great rifle that will put a smile on your face.
By replacing the trigger spring without polishing the surfaces, my trigger can break with the shock from the neighbour firing bigger caliber when I put my finger on the trigger, it is fun though a little scary.

The triggers on mine can be a little scary, too, depending on which of my safety pin trigger springs I install. Some of them have more coils than others, and those with the least amount of coils yeild trigger pulls that are scary light.

Intersesting...

Mine is in the ounces range and not scary at all. Im not blowing smoke either. Perhaps I should film a bump test?

I've made some trigger springs from safety pins with no additional coils, one additional coils, and two additional coils. Those with no extra coils are probably in the single digits (measured in ounces) but they don't always pass the bump test. At the moment, I don't recall which spring is in which gun(?). I should look sometime....

I am not sure about the safety pin really. I tried some and the quality was sub par on my examples. Do you have some decent ones?

I got hooked with this thread from the very first week, and thought I would try to present my version of 'stock' versus 'modified' at some stage in the future.

My only problem is that the 'stock' appears to seriously good, and I am getting nervous that my modifications will prove to be marginal at best. I have purchase 20 different types of .22 LR ammo and I have a group in which all 5 shots touch at 50 yards. (I do 4x 5 shot groups at 50 yards from a bench / sandbag).

I am going to do the main modifications (raised cheek piece / pillar + glass bedding / trigger mod's) but I really wonder if I pick a rifle that shoots better than I do already!

I'll let you know sometime next year, if it works......

Conduced.

I started with standard safety pins. The trigger was light--too light some of the time (sometimes the rifle would fire when closing the bolt). I then started bending the safety pins and adding extra coils (I place the coil of the safety pin over the end of a pin punch and bend the pin around the punch). I did some with one, two, and maybe even three additional coils (I don't really remember--they're out there in the garage somewhere, in a plastic baggie). Those with more coils did better. I don't really know which type (2 coil, 3 coil?) is in the gun now, but the trigger feel is quite good, so I'm leaving well enough alone. That's the beauty of the safety pin trigger spring--a package of a few dozen pins costs three or four bucks, and it takes all of 10 minutes to turn out several of each style of spring (2 coil, 3 coil, etc).

If I remember correctly I have my trigger down to about 1 1/2 lbs and it feels really nice, I polished the surfaces as well and the difference is night & day. I'm still working on different ammo to see what works best.

Have you changed trigger springs, or just polished the working parts?
