Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

Wind was pretty gusty today, so I didn't get any great groups. Still had a good time though. Shot the little Norinco from sandbags and it feels great. I had the scope a bit far forward though, and didn't have a wrench with Soni could adjust it, but other than that, it fit like a glove. The wide forend made it way more stable, as I expected, so it should be easier to shoot it consistently.

Thanks. Not sure you can say I work faster, I have been thinking of doing it since I bought the rifle what, 6 years ago? Something like that anyway. Stars just happened to align with lots of rain on the weekends, so I figured I might as well try.

Sorry to necro an old thread, but I had a hell of a time finding a canted base that'd work on this rifle and wanted to share in the thread that has all the info. The DIP Anschutz 54 25MOA rail can be coerced to work on the NS522. You'll need to file it slightly to fit on the rails or just pound it on there. You'll also need to relieve the back of the rail for bolt clearance.

After that work, you get a nice fitting, canted rail, with a nice ejection port in the right spot, and a bit of overhang rail in case you need it on the front.

DIP won't send direct to Canada, but Kinney's Shooting Supply will.

That Anschutz rail almost looks like it was meant for this rifle, nice find! It's too bad they're out of stock, I'll have to keep an eye for when they're back. I swapped the Athlon Argos from my 308 with it's Burris signature insert type rings onto mine, sighted it in and did a bit of ballistics testing on Friday afternoon, then shot my first ever rimfire PRS match on Sunday. First time I've ever tried to dial that much elevation to get on target quickly, and I definitely need more practice, but it was a lot of fun. I used Strelok pro to figure out what I needed to dial in for each target, and after playing with it to get the trajectory close, it worked really well. Out of around 30 shooters I think I was the only one with a wood stock. It sure is heavy too, a touch over 12lbs with the Athlon and the knockoff Harris bipod.

It looks like most people are over these rifles, but I'm enjoying mine more than ever. I've been working on my rifle a bit more, especially now that the longish range bug has bitten. I've done a couple PRS matches with it now, and have had a blast learning and trying to get better at this. I've done a bit more tweaking of the stock shape, bought a much better scope from Jerry at Mystic Precision, and finally cleaned up and painted my half finished scope rail. I never did get a rail with some angle built in for long range, so I broke down and bought a set of Burris XTR rings with the offset bushings. They're really nice rings, but they cost as much as the rifle itself did. As it turns out, PRS shooters use the same Arca Swiss rails for things like bipods and shooting rests, so I got a 12" rail and attached it to my fore end with 10-32 Allen screws and T-nuts. On some stages a bipod is useful, and the rail lets me move it forwards and backwards, depending on what kind of prop I'm shooting from. I've used CCI standard for both the matches I've shot so far, but I've been playing with some SK Standard and SK Flat nose basic. The flat nose basic looks promising, but I've only shot 1/2 a box of it at 50m. This was one of my first targets with it though.

The writing on the target is correct, that's 10 rounds into 3/8". I'll post some photos of the gun and the newest work on it once it's back together. Here's a teaser just after I put what should be close to the last coat of linseed oil on it for now, it's to the point now where I can coat the entire stock with just a few drops on the heel of my hand.

I will be testing another rifle once the snow melts and the mud is gone. This will have a tuner and I hope it reacts as well as the other rifle with tuner.

My rifles like SK Rifle match.. with the tuner, CenterX becomes a good contender

Regarding the ten rounds into .375" at 50 meters, is this consistently achievable or more of a random act of accuracy?

As far as consistently shooting groups like that one, probably not, at least not with me doing the shooting. Hopefully I can get good enough to shoot consistently under 1/2" 5 shot groups at 50.

I wonder when those Scorpios will be all gone? I just got one for my son, and the tag on it said it was made in 2017. I was going to ask what you did to them to improve the ejection too, my ns522 needs a decent flick back to eject properly, and sometimes leaves the spent case in the action. I'm pretty sure I'll be setting my daughter up with one as well when her birthday comes around. I haven't done anything with it yet, aside from making sure it's not obviously messed up. Seems to have a pretty decent trigger out of the box too, but that's easy to fix on these anyway.

Durham outdoors had them in stock when I ordered a month ago, but no spare mags, so I ordered from tenda instead. The rifles only come with one mag.

Thanks, yes I believe I remember, they started taking one of the mags out of the kit, mine came with 2, that was at the beginning but then again I paid $229. For mine! I think I will order another, or two, so I get free shipping!

I find it is in adjusting the claws to get the orientation that is correct. There are batches that work great out of the box... and a bunch that suck. Some will need stronger springs. Some will need adjustments in claw dimensions. It is fiddly but so far, it can be corrected and brought to a proper operation.

These are certainly the best kept secret in the rimfire world... but they definitely are a hands on TLC type of project. Always smoothing and polishing. Haven't met a trigger that didn't need work. Changing the bolt knobs with the Scorpio... fitting the scope base. Adjusting the ejection.

Many will shy away from anything that needs files, and home DIY machine work. And if you want someone to set it up, the labour costs (if someone would take on the job) reduces the value.

But... great shooters can lie underneath.
