PAL "in progress"

28 days is good time, congrats. I had to call the actual officer today, finally got a hold of him. Asked him about my status, he said it would be there in 2-3 weeks. Looked online later in the day at work, and finally updated to reflect that, only took 59 days, lol.

Thanks. :) I phoned my CFO today and got my PAL #. With that I applied for range membership and then my long-term ATT today as well. Hopefully by the time I receive my PAL in the mail I will also have my ATT.

The only problem that I see with my PAL proccess is that I sealed my envelope then realized I forgot to put in my signed photo (Yes not one of my brightest moments...) Anyways, I opened the envelope, and put in the photo. I resealed it using Tuck Tape - the red stuff. I hope Canada Post doesn't have a problem with that.. Also I was so excited I forgot to put a return address on it aswell. You guys think any of this might pose a problem? I know the address is correct - the envelopes we recieved from the PAL instructors were already addressed. So someone please put my mind at ease and tell me not to worry so I can get some sleep tonight

Don't tell me you put all kinds of personal information in a envelope and did not send it registered mail?

No interview!

They called my references last week but have not called me. Several people here have stated that they were called for an interview as well as their references. I am upgrading from a pol to an rpal. should i be worried that they have not called me? it has been 26 days since they received it.

I was told the 28 days period does not apply to upgrades.

I have been waiting 104 days as of now. Threw out my back at work this morning, on the bright side I can call the CFC, something I can never do during the work week, due to their office hours.

Called today as my Rpal app has been in thier hands for 45 days. The lady from the RCMP told me that my app was complete and sent to Ont CFO for final aproval. She then gave me my file number and connected me to the Ontario office, I spoke to another lady there.

I was told that they were working through a "bit of a backlog" and had not got to mine yet. She looked it up, mentioned it was all in order, then mentioned that she would give my file to an officer for final approval and it should be done in a day or two.

Maybe BS maybe not, I'll post when I see the status change on the website but I will echo the comments that have been posted in this thread many times. Be polite and friendly and you will get treated well. In both cases, i didn't ask either lady for more than an update on my app and told them that it had been 45 days. They offered to do the rest and I gratefully accepted.

Good morning, please, and thank you seem to have helped along with have a good day at the end of the phone call. After all these years, I have to admit my parents were right about using good manners at all times LOL.

Checked the website and my RPAL has been issued 46 days after they received the application.

Glad to see others are having good luck in get their licenses. Mine was just a non restricted license, took 59 days to get approved by the officer, but only 5 days in the mail across the country. Finally get to receive my paid for gun, my 1st, and get to see how this hobby could make me broke, lol. Good luck all!

I emailed CFC this morning, give them all information about my PAL application, they reply in the afternoon, said me and both of my reference will have an phone interview. we can call them, they also give me the phone number and PAL application number. and check the website said my application still in progress. Today is 23th days.

There, all sorted out. Website says my ap is finished the initial process, and on to the next. Now I just wait for the call, and the call to my references.

Regarding PAL and RPAL

It is perplexing, to say the least, that in today’s age of technology, the processing and exchange of information by the Canadian Firearms Program can be so antiquated. Before I go further, I have no problem with the mandatory 28 day waiting period. However, I am at a loss as to why the CFP is so inefficient at processing and sending information in a timely manner.

Let's look at the CFP time-line effectiveness:

PAL and RPAL application received by CFP:
10 September 2009
0 Days

Mr. A reference contacted - deemed ineligible:
30 September 2009
20 Days
Tells them he hasn’t known me for 3 years – more like 2.5 years - DOH!

Letter generated indicating Mr. A reference not valid:
10 August 2009
11 Days
Perhaps CFP could have phoned me or had an automatic email sent (I did provide my email address)

Letter arrives indicating Mr. A reference ineligible:
18 August 2009
8 Days
Perhaps CFP could have generated an electronic format and saved the postage and the 8 day delay

CFP generates a letter - Now! Mr. B reference ineligible:
14 August 2009
4 days and counting
(faxed signature a no-no) The letter informing me this has not yet arrived!

Total so far: 39 days

Let’s look at my time-line effectiveness:

Completed and Passed Pal and RPAL course:
6 September 2009
0 Days

Mailed completed Application:
7 September 2009
1 Day

Application arrived at CFP:
10 September 2009
3 Days

Reference - Mr. A (friend) informs me he is not eligible:
3 August 2009
0 Days
On second thought, when questioned by CFP, Mr. A now thinks he has known me for 2 ½ years!

Mailed completed (new) Mr. B reference (Brother-in-Law)
3 August 2009
0 Days

Phoned to see if Mr. B reference has arrived:
14 August 2009
0 Days

CFP informed me Mr. B reference has NOT arrived:
14 August 2009
0 Days

Phoned CFP to see if now Mr. B reference has arrived:
18 August 2009
0 Days

CFP now informs FAXED signature of Mr. B - no good:
18 August 2009
0 Days

I pleaded with CFP to allow Mr. B to phone and verify that he really did sign form - NOPE!:
18 August 2009
0 Days

NEW NEW Reference - Mrs. C (my mother this time) done:
18 August 2009
0 Days

Priority Posted NEW NEW Mrs. C reference to CFP:
18 August
0 Days

Total time at my end so far:
4 days

I am 10 times more efficient than the CFP and I didn’t cost 2 Billion dollars.

Well i dont know if you guys are phoning in or not but i did after 20 days waiting with it saying nothing on the site. The next day my status changed from not being in the system to having all my references including them calling me to do a bit of a further questionaire. If in doubt, CALL.

Will it go onto the online verification thing when they receive it I sent it out by snail mail over a week ago and nothing on there website yet I'm guessing it's just slow snail mail that is taking it's time.

Mine took just over 2 weeks from the time I sent it to when it appeared on the site.

All I can suggest is CALL. My sorry state (see above) would have taken weeks and weeks if I hadn't been pro-active and called and asked about status, references, should I send in more info before asked (yes), etc. It would be good to voice displeasure that in todays age, snail mail is unacceptable. One small bump in your application (had reference fax me completed form and that is unacceptable) and 3 weeks will pass even before you are aware. Even though my application is a mess, it would have been many extra weeks, before I was even aware.
Everyone should call at 28 days, inform them it's been 28 days, and ask how there application coming along. There is no 28 day waiting period in practice. It will be 6 weeks or more like 8 weeks. WHY? Are they doing this on purpose? Today's technology allows me to do secure online banking of huge amounts of cash within a matter of minutes? If I email my MP, I get a reply email that my email has been received 30 SECONDS later.

No, i sent mine and the tracking said they recieved it on july 30 it was signed for. It didn't appear on the website untill the day after i called (i dont know if that was coincidence) which was aug 18 about 2 weeks after it was signed for.

argh !...
I called in today to check on the status, I've caused a bit of a delay...
my application was received today... 20'ish days since I sent it in... but I forgot to sign the photo :(

they are sending me a document to sign that I can simply fax back to them...

after -110- days of wait and multiple phonecalls... I get my PAL/rPAL

Application Number: ############xx

Application Received on: 2009/05/01

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

Boy all these posts bring back recent memories of all my anxiety and impatience. I got the card after 38 days or so. It may be a coincidence but I found calling Miramiche effective about 3 weeks after I knew they received my application. Two days later both my references and I were called. After I saw that I had been approved I called again and the woman passed me on to the CFO who after a call gave me my license number which was useless as the dealer wouldn't release my gun to me without the card. I empathize with anyone going through the process. I think we are all like kids waiting for Santa. The big plus for me was that everyone I have called either at the RCMP or the CFO has been wonderfully friendly and helpful. It's a drag of a process but the people do a good job IMHO.
