Remington ACR

Definite Maybe.

If they're smart there will be a "varmint/target" version available. In the US they can use bull barreled AR rifles for this. Here we can't. An accurate non-restricted semi auto with excellent ergonomics, and easily mounted accessories (bipods, scopes etc) would be a big hit. I'd buy one, providing they were excellent in the accuracy department.

Current options for this right now are: mini14 target, HK SL-8, Swiss Arms PE-90, and Tavor. Of these choices only the SL-8 has a semi bull barrel. Even this barrel could be thicker. The mini14 has a quasi bull barrel with the thickness changing, and the others have slightly longer combat rifle barrels. The Tavor accuracy wise may be pushing it for a varmint rifle.

I don't care what barrel it has. If it can use AR barrels that's awesome. I just want a non-restricted rifle that's light, uses AR mags, has a good section of rail along the top (not a bolt on after thought), piston driven is nice and has the ergonomics of the standard AR....Is that too much to ask for?!

I just hope the final export version isn't raped too badly....(Kinda like what HK does to their rifles ;))

I care because it would give this rifle the versatility of the AR rifle. IE range shooting/tactical and varmint/target off range shooting. This could be the rifle to give Canadians the options that the Americans have enjoyed with the AR platform. Something we've been robbed of for a very long time.

I have a feeling that the much vaunted barrel quick change feature will be even more inconvenient and problematic for us than it's worth.

I do agree we have been robbed of fun. Having an AR barrel is a nice feature for sure.

Im sure we'll get these but the price will likely be north of the PE90s and the volume imported will likely be low. Think SCAR territory. Unless Remington can secure a solid set of MIL orders this may not even get off the ground. I understand the appeal to civilian consumers in Canada but I can't understand why the US would choose it over an M4 type rifle with a monolithic upper? The cost difference can't make up for the minor increase in capabilities? As always money talks and with the US financial system in the state its in, I bet the military will start tightening the belt a bit.

If you want a good rifle that will do to the field and the range then look at the TAR21 Tavor, arguably better then the PE90, a bit cheaper and CANAM has a lot of them coming in. It looks like production numbers are gonna reach over a million rifles based on current orders so support is gonna be good.

ACR deffinately looks like fun though, I gotta ask why they wouldn't lengthen the front HG?
