Shooting ducks on the water? :)

Hunting ducks with a rifle isn't legal for most of north america, but even if it was made legal, some people would be frothing at the mouth trying to tell other hunters it was immoral and criminal.

And THAT is the point!!!!

Do I recall someone saying something about assumptions? At least you're coming clean about the intentions of your posts. Not that it comes as a surprise.

It's no assumption. It's already been posted in this thread by some people that they consider legal hunting methods immoral and criminal. ;)

This is what I was trying to address, but alas, it's arguing over the net. Kinda like running in the special olympics, even if you win you're still a _______!! Lol

If you're referring to the stringing along about how great it is to hunt ducks with a .22, only to have the big reveal that the ducks are in fact domestic ducks...I completely agree.

Actually....upon further thought...its doesnt matter what your referring to because you're right either way lol

Not just to dispatch...

Have you ever sat for hours with a disgusted retriever??? I have on occasion shot a bird swimming joyfully amongst the deke's... c'est ca... retriever therapy.

Much of our ducks are shot over grain fields, usually as a bonus to goose hunters. Not surprisingly the field shooters sneer at the over water shooters, who sneer at the on the water shooters. Many of the goose hunters sneer at all of the duck hunters, and the decoy shooters feel superior to pass shooters. Everyone laughs at the jump shooters. It all works out, with just about everyone getting to feel superior to someone except for some types of duck hunters, but since goose hunters are the only real hunters nobody cares what they think. The field shooters have even managed to outlaw bird hunting on many pieces of water so it doesn't interfere with the field shooting. Again, who cares what some lowlife water hunters think?��;)

Over grain fields. Hunting them over water is a questionable practice. Hunting them over water in the evening is downright criminal, as that's their resting place. Using realistic floating decoys is also unethical, they should be painted 50% blaze orange to make it sporting. Don't get me started on motorized decoys, they should be banned, along with semi auto shotguns and 3.5" shells. :)

Ha! How true!

I live on Lake Erie and the other day there was about 100 mallard gadwall and blacks 120 m up shore, as I was eating breakfast 2 mallard and 2 blacks swam right in front of the house and were feeding 30 m away from the deck. Since the lab hadn't been hunting since the 2nd Pelee Pheasant Hunt, I thought what the hell go get the shotgun and give hell! But decided I'd rather just watch them swim and feed and didn't want to kick the rest up either (dog is still pissed with me!).

With that being said I've jump shot for years and have no issue popping the first on the water and rest in the air, the dog needs her retrieve! So for me it situational and will be the judge of when is works and when it doesn't

Not everyone... "single shot muck jumpers" don't ever get to feel superior...
