Shorten PAL Approval Times

Took PAL-->RPAL TEST in late oct. got my results confirmation mid nov. references called beginning of DEC. Just did my interview today. Now awaiting final approval barely a month after the test! ...In ontario!

fudge yeah.

Also it's never taken me more than 5 seconds to get a gun transferred to me. I think the CFC likes me.

Here's my experience so far. In Ontario:

Took PAL & RPAL the first weekend in Nov.
Nov 12th - Mailed in my application (without test results) by registered mail
Nov 16th - Application arrived and signed for
Dec 5th - Application showed up "online". Shows the application arrival date as Nov 14th.
Dec 7th - Online status says "You have been, or will be contacted either by phone or by mail for additional information."

I'm still waiting for my test results.

I'm going to call tomorrow and see if I can do my interview yet or if they need the test results first.

UPDATE:

Dec 12 -
- Got a letter from the RCMP stating that my application is missing the test results and to fax them to 1-800-411-0622 when I receive them
- Received my stamped test results from the CFO
- Faxed everything to the RCMP

UPDATE:

Dec 13 - Called RCMP to verify they received my course information. They had. She assured me that they would be contacting me shortly to conduct my interview.

UPDATE:

Dec 15 - They called me and I did my phone interview. One of my references is a guy I work with, so I passed the phone to him and he did his too. Called my 2nd reference and gave him a heads up. He'll call in this afternoon.

UPDATE:

Dec 16 - Second reference called in this morning. He called me when he was done and I check the RCMP site... License has been issued!!

Big thanks to everyone for this thread! The tip of sending in the application without test results probably saved me at least a month of wait time.

The status page for mine says to call if you haven't received it in 2 weeks. Tomorrow is two weeks...

As stated before, I'll post my complete timeline when I have the card in my hands.

Is the CFC call centre open on Saturdays, I got charged the $80.00 last week, and it I am still not up on the website.

No, they're not. Seems the website is updated in the afternoons though. If you don't see the status changed by say 3:00 tomorrow, give 'em a call. Mine got billed about 10am (I get email notifications of CC charges on my phone), but it didn't show up until 3:00.

"Hi, noticed my card got charged last week but I'm not showing online. Just making sure there's not a typo in my name or home town. No, it's all good? Excellent! Do you need any additional information, or perhaps if it's a good time I could do my interview now?|

Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

Day 28 for me as well :)

As promised, my timeline;

Sep 23/24; Completed PAL/RPAL course
Oct 14; Stamped results back from CFO
Oct 26; Sent complete application in
Oct 31; Received at Miramichi
Nov 15; Credit card billed, "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress."
Nov 16; Call 800 number, ask if they received all needed information, and if I can do my interview. "Everything is here, but we're not quite ready for interviews yet. Call back early next week"
Nov 22; Called 800 number and did my interview. Co-worker reference also did his interview during same phone call.
Nov 23; Second reference called in, made an error on when we first met, disqualified himself (said Feb/09 = 2 yrs 9 months). I called back and explained the error (he's known me since at least mid '08 if not earlier). Was told he should call back with correct dates.
Nov 24; Second reference called back, this time speaking French (handy!), did his interview no problem. RCMP site still shows "It is now in progress."
Nov 28; "Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number.". Two weeks is December 12th. Oct 31 to Today: 28 Days.
Dec 12; License received by regular mail.
