Shorten PAL Approval Times

Geez, policy policy policy! I think if someone goes for a gun exam, that should show responsibility enough. Then again, what kind of person fails that test? I'm new to guns and I got 97% written and 100% practical. It really wasn't that difficult.

I know, its an Ontario thing. From what I gather, there were issues with past Ontario instructors passing or authorizing acceptance to individuals whom actually failed a portion of the testing (or something like that........also heard that some instructors whom were no longer licenced used old testing approval forms, but I really am not privvy to the actual happenings).
SOOO, now Ontario applications need to have the marks stamped before the CFC and ultimately the CFO at the end of the process will authorize.........

Hmmm, did not know that. I did my courses in ON back in 99 and 05, but submitted in AB this year. Difference is my results were already on file at the CFC.

so who else had it take 2 weeks plus to get it online? I'm starting to think my application got lost or something, even though they signed for it. :dancingbanana:

Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

Still waiting for week and half and didn't receive nothing yet! is this normal?

Still nothing from the Ontario CFO for me. Passed the examination on the 19th of January, an my instructor told me to expect the results back from the CFO in about three weeks. Got a letter from the CFC stating that there were no results with my application. Well duh - I indicated that to them on the form....

Did not think that 100% was allowed to be given. :nest:

[For Ontario residents: you can send in your application before you get your stamped CFSC firearms course results back from the Ontario CFO and get the 28 day waiting period started earlier than if you wait and attach the results to the application. Questions 20(a) and (b) each have a box to check if the exam results are enclosed, so you would just leave that blank. Probably also worthwhile to include a note that exam results will follow. The 28 day clock starts once the application is received by CFC. If you wait until you get your 'stamped' safety course report(s) back you have added that to your waiting period, and it is often about 6 weeks.]

Is this really advisable? Wont that in fact slow down the process since you have documentation in 2 separate places arriving at different times that needs to be matched up at the CFC? What should I label the second envelope containing the CFSC test results so they wont get it mixed up? I'm very interested in hearing peoples opinions/results on this, please reply or pm me.

Also, in the application form Section G Question 20 (c) has some interesting wording and I'm not sure what to answer.

Thanks from a newbie!

Thanks for the quick reply, calalta. I didn't mean to sound like I was challenging your opinion, just wanted to find out the quickest way of doing this.

How did you label the second envelope, etc with the CFSC test results to make sure it ended up with your application? Also any advice on question 20(c) on the form? Thanks again!

Mine just showed up online the other day it took 2 full weeks to show up. I called to do my interview and they said not ready yet call back in a week to ten days. Don't get too excited guys it will show up and when it does you might as well wait a week to call in your interview.28 days started when they received app not when it showed up online. As long as you phone in interview before 28th day you should be good. I'll update next week after my interview. Just my recent experiences good luck guys

You can fax the results in, no need to mail it.

RED TAPE, RED TAPE & MORE RED TAPE !!! It is to believe that they make all that fuss to justify some people's job ! While the whole process could be done at a one unique place, They make everything go , here then there to everywhere. so it creates bureaucratic jobs and the same papers are getting handled several time by Canada post so this generates more income to the government !! meanwhile we wait :puke:

Section G, question 20 (c). It just has some confusing wording, even after reading the info at the top of the page. So would I check 'yes', but what would I specify like it asks?

Your question is worded confusingly too :)

The answer is No. You were certified by the CFSC/CRFSC instructor, and if Ontario, those results were verified by the CFO.

You should call the 800 number to be 110% sure, but I put no on mine (new RPAL license) and had it in 28 days.

Agreed, especially in Ontario with the CFO stamping each individual test, adding 3 weeks to the process. That's the primary reason for this whole thread. However the tips given (send your application in ahead) really do cut down on the time it takes. Personally I waited for the papers to come back, and it added a month to my wait.
