Shorten PAL Approval Times

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)
Hellz yeah! That was fast! Took me 29 days total to get my RPAL.

Dude, I envy you... You did the course the same weekend I did, you received your results, faxed it in, got your interview done and license issued... I'm still waiting for the stamped results...

Did you do your tests in Toronto by chance?
I got very lucky, even the reps on the phone sounded amazed that my app and photo were scanned into the system so quickly lol.. must be because I have a pretty mug.

However any good advise or suggestions are always welcome

Call and call and call and also don't forget to call and when in doubt call.

The longest reasonable time frame for any company to receive a Fax is 3 days, I call in 1-2. If you wait for them to contact your references they may take a week to get in touch a busy person and if it takes too may tries they will decline your app.

I was told when your money is taken from your credit if you used one you should call to get your interview done. After the money is taken and 28 days the ball is in your court. Always fax to them never wait for mail to arrive. Always pursue action that needs to be taken on your account. Ask them plainly and directly if everything is correct and is it ready for the interviews.

Information in > Interview you > interview your 2 references > sent to CFO > CFO rubber stamps it (usually very fast). If I licenced to them I would still have another month or 2 wait.

I apologize if this has already been discussed in the preceding 545 pages.....

I have an expired POL.
I recently applied for a PAL and RPAL.
Will my application still be subject to the 28 day wait?
Thanks for any replies.

Send the application without the results. Note on it that results will follow as soon as you receive them.
Send your app by registered mail. The 28 days start on the day that their Mr or Ms Brown signs for them.
Ask them for a fax number (there is one in one or more of the 5000+ posts here) to send your results in by fax (and also send them by registered mail).
Every day you gain counts.

I found this fax number from two years ago.

1 800 411 0622

Good luck.

I was just wondering how long it takes until the application shows up online. its been 2 weeks since it was received and when i go to check it says they have nothing.

Application Received on: 2013/03/22
I was called and had my interview this morning. I didn't know they work on Saturdays.
She was going to call my references next but I knew one was at the cabin. She gave me a number and ext. so they could call and do it.
So, quite happy with the process so far.

If you have a current licence you don't have a 28 day wait if you don't have one then you need to wait 28 days.

Interesting that the wait time is the same name as a zombie apocalypse movie. Coincidence? I think NOT!

Maybe because I had an RPAL years ago that expired and I already did the proper courses years ago too. After following this thread, it seems like total luck of the draw as to when stuff gets done.
Hopefully yours gets some attention soon. :)

Ok boys and girls just a little update - I'm a very patient person but this is too much.
Course and Testing done (CFSC & CRFSC) on March 9/10th
Instructor sent the test results to the Ontario CFO for review on March 12th. Been waiting patiently for my results to be sent back to me. I called in the 6th week and the lady (very nice lady) said they were running 4 to 6 weeks. Ok, I thought, I will give it another week in case it is in the mail.
8 F'N (total) weeks later still nothing. Called again today and asked again, told her I was at 8 weeks. Her response "we are running about 4 to 6 weeks".....ummm I said how does that work when I am sitting at 8 weeks? I will have to look into this, we have to go thru things manually to find out where it is, asked my name, my instructors name but didn't ask for any contact information.
So I have registered a complaint at the Ontario Ombudsman, cc'd Cheryl Gallant, unfortunately I cc'd both my MPP and MP which won't help anything as they are both stonch liberals.

Just thought I would share.
PS My application is sitting in the RCMP's hands, they are just waiting for the test results to then conduct my interviews.

You are lucky im trying to complain about my MB CFO I have contacted my MP and MPP (CPC) the MB ombudsman and the RCMP all tell me to pound sand as they have nothing to do with the CFO.

Sent my application by registered mail on 2013/04/02.

Kept checking my online status last couple weeks and nothing came up so I figured they were just back logged...I'm a patient guy so it wasn't stressing me out.

Day off today so I thought I'd give them a call. The very nice lady on the phone found my application and said I was missing my city of birth. I was born in Hong Kong back in 1971 so I had put in Hong Kong as both city and country of birth. We had an enjoyable conversation where I educated her that before 1997, Hong Kong was a British Colony and its city/country status used to be a bit "unique", whereas today it is now officially Hong Kong, China. We talked a bit about its "Special Administrative Region" status from Mainland China and the peculiarities of government and economy.

Anyways, back to the point...

My application is now showing online...
Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

I was hoping she would transfer me on the spot to do my interview but she didn't and stated the application process will take a total of 45-90 days. She was nice so I didn't try her patience. I thanked her for her time and wished her a good day.

Moral of the story - don't pay any heed to their "45 day" period. If you don't see your application online after 2 weeks call in.

I just checked my mailbox and wouldn't you know it...there's a letter from the RCMP telling me to call the 1-800 number due to missing application information lol. 2 weeks wasted:(
