Shorten PAL Approval Times

First off I was told today that they just opened applications for May 18th on Friday. So do your math from there, mine was received June 7th so i have 2 more weeks before they even open it.

The reason I called them was they've really pooched the website up. Now to check the status you need to create an account online first just to check the status of your application which may or may not even be available online! WTF?

The first step was to create an account. I got several errors on the password I was using even though it met all of their requirements, tried a new password, still errors, tried a third password and finally got in. (funny thing is that I was pissed off at this point so "fu#k" was part of my password and it worked).

Second step was to register services for individuals. Asks for your name, email address, place of birth etc and says use 00000000 as your license number if this is for a new license. I entered everything into all the boxes and another error! "Your personal information is incorrect". I double and triple checked all of the information I typed and even tried all lowercase/uppercase for first letter of names etc and still couldnt get it to accept the information.

I called and spoke with someone who "handles website issues" and spent 10 minutes listening to her say "the easiest way is to use google and then click on RCMP" etc. She didnt know how to type a website name into a freaking browser address bar!!! LOL I politely told her I'd call back in a couple of weeks. For anyone who does call back and try to get help logging in, it sounds like the only supported browser is Ineternet Explorer but I have no idea if that was the issue. I tried Firefox and IE9 and got the same error. She mentioned "Chrome would not work" and told me "Firefox is going to be a problem" so who the hell knows?

Anyways, I'm just going to wait another week and call again to see if my app has been opened. The woman told me not to get frustrated as there is a 28 day waiting period anyways. I politley told her my waiting period is already over and you've yet to open my envelope.

Good luck everyone, hope you have more success than I did with them.

Yeah they really borked the online status check.... they love to make things even harder than they already are in the hopes we will be dissuaded. My app was received on June 7th as well, and I was told last week that they are processing the end of may currently, so its any ones guess as to how long its going to take (they claim the back log was caused by a crap ton of renewls in april and may, and that it should smooth out soon....sure it will)

I shall be calling every second day until its processed....if the wheel don't squeak, how do you know it needs grease?

coughcoughbull####cough

Renewals do not require a bg check etc etc at all... so should be insanely easily dealt with and not cause any such BS.

Here's a link to the old cfp status check page: https://secure.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/eCFISIWS/editLicenceQueryAuthentication.do

It seems to still work but who knows if they're still updating it. I just tried setting up with the new one and after trying many times to enter security questions (clicking the button does nothing) I get:

Mailed mine on may 22nd they should have recieved it on may 28th. Still not even online. I called on friday they told me call back in 2 weeks. They didnt say anything about what applications they were opening now only that they had a big backlog. Hopfully soon! Really itching to pick something up and get to the range!

They received mine on May 23 and its still not online. The outgoing message said to wait up to 45 days then give them a call. Once its online, may take another 2-3 weeks but who knows how long it will really take. I heard folks mention months and not weeks.

It's a freaking joke how inconsistent they are. I know a guy who had his app received literally the same day as me, showed up online 1 day later then mine did, and his app was approved on day 32. Mine is now approaching the 3 month mark and the status still hasn't changed. I called on month 2 and was told my app was in good order with no missing information, my background check was clean, and was now with the BC CFO for finally approval. They tell us there is a backlog but that is bull####. Why are some people getting theirs approved in 30days or around while others are waiting months? The whole system is a joke. I don't think there is any rhyme or reason to the process. I have lived a squeaky clean life and never had any financial issues either. I know of people who have had much more colorful lives than me who are walking around with PAL's. I guess You just have to hope to be one of the lucky ones who gets through fast or you'll most definitely be waiting months.

Yep. That's the one I've been using for months now.

PAL application signed for at Miramichi on May.17. Called today (July.2) as my application did not appear online. Was told they have just started looking through it and gave me an account number.

You could be right, I'll try that link as well since I cant get anywhere with the new one.

The "tech support" woman I spoke with said she didn't think they were using the new website for individuals yet, only for organizations. She was surprised I was calling about problems with the website.
Then again, maybe I got a dud...she asked her co-worker about the new site who promptly said "Yeah, we got an email about it". Sounds like a real well oiled machine when the employees answering the phones who are supposed to deal with website issues are finding out about major website changes via email (and then some apparently don't bother to open!) LMAO.

Just joined the local gun club last night....now the waiting will be even toigher knowing I have a place to shoot. Wonder if the guys on the range would laugh if I showed up with an old Daisy BB gun. hehe

Received May 10th.
Posted online June 20th.
Completed initial processing. Now in progress.
Called June 25th, was informed an interview was required but they weren't ready to perform one. Told to call back mid next week.
Called July 2nd, had my interview. Told to have my references call in to speed up process. They called in later that day.
License issued July 2nd.

Agrrrr... Government! We should be able to withhold taxes based on the service quality we get!
This guys act like they are running their own business and having a monopoly! So MADDDDDDDDD!!!

After having my application in their office for 7 weeks and charging my cc 2 weeks ago, when i called today she said they are missing some info (which were actually provided but somehow missing now!) and she is sending me a letter to provide those again!!!

From the another hand, i had a problem with safety and hunting certificate card (the date of birth was wrong) and i got a new card in the mail after just 3 days when i called them and informed them about it!

They received my RPAL app on May 13th, took them 6 weeks to open it, it was on the website on June 26th,(Completed initial processing). I called on Friday June 28th to make sure they had everything they needed, luckily I called as whoever opened my app messed up the address when they entered it in the system and was told to call back a week later because my app had been sent to the department that conducts interviews but.....they were not ready to do the interviews yet. Not sure how the department that conducts interviews is't prepared to do so but that isn't the most rediculous thing I have heard about this process either.
