Shorty M14 presale + .308 ammo deal

Got mine on Sat Morning cleaned it up and took it to the range on Sunday after I went quading.
Light was starting to fade, just brought 1 box of FMJ 308 147Gn Nato surplus Dated 1980.
First shot hit about 1 " direct center above the bullseye. the next 5 grouped in 2".
Target was 8" sticky at about 60 meters. The next 5 on the second target, 2 touching on the bullseye ring and 1 flyer bout 3 inches up. I moved (to excited)other 2 within 1 1/2"
group.
The last 10 shots I was hitting the 8" steel plate at 200 Yards in the dark dirt I could hardly see.

You know this rifle even looks good just stock. Just like my mini 14 with PVC stock.
I have a regular 305 also but this will become my fav now.

You guys are going to enjoy yours. It looks more modern with the Black stock darker tint on the metal and socom like barrel.

Just need that Norinco ammo now before it gets to cold here in MB

Well as long as I get it before the clinic in Milcun this weekend.The ammo would be nice as we are shooting the 2nd day but I will be surprised if that shows up in time..

Picked rifle up at CanPar depot. No Complaints! Thanks CanAm! Now the wait for the ammo. Thinking of picking up some of that cheap MFS stuff in the meantime.

Mine came today. The oil wiped off easily enough. Very nice rifle, besides a few of the usual Norc quirks. I really appreciate the great service these guys offer, and the free pack of targets is the icing on the cake

I came home from work this morning and grabbed a T shirt out of the drawer and it was a CGN shirt…I knew it was going to be a good day

I took the rifle apart and so far it looks really good!!.

It has some good and bad points that I have noticed so far. The op rod guide is loose and the Op rod is misaligned (easy fix). The gas cylinder lock gets nice and tight where it’s supposed to so no shims are required on mine.
I like how the front sight is on straight for starters …and the post is higher than the ears and sloped towards the muzzle on top. The shorter barrel version of m-14 requires a taller front sight and it’s good to see they addressed that issue.
The flashider is spot welded on regretfully ,On my first poly I couldnt see the spot welds but it was definately welded on but I pounded it off with no damage to it so hopefully this one will too as I have another Springfield muzzle brake coming .
The spot welds on this flashider are quite visable though so I will see soon I guess.
The metal on my Shorty looks less porous and the machine work in spots is smoother.
Especially on the bottom of the gas cylinder, the inside top receiver and the op rod guide all look like they have nicer smoother finish The barrel is more gray then my Polytechs, where as the rear sights, gas spindle valve, and the front gas plug are black on the shorty.Well they painted half the plug...lol
The rear sight elevation worked very well but the windage knob would only work in one direction (Right) .I took them off and they were oily but looked fine , I have USGI rear sight for it so into the drawer it goes for later .

I am going to Hungrys clinic this weekend so they will be on the range Sunday :)

The better machining on the Shorty compared to my Polytechs,the shorty is on the right in all the pics.The bottom of the gas cylinder on the polys have large casting marks as well as the inside roof of the receiver and the op rod guide is less porous on the Shorty as well.

The mags are limited with silver rivets on mine and overall I am impressed with what I see about the rifle and the few issues mine has are minor really.This rifle and ammo deal was fantastic !
Thanks Canam for bringing these in for us .....and I will stop whining on here about not getting mine now ...;)

Hi Chalkriver, I get that too. It's a common thing when you have English-Canada as your keyboard region. I get it too.

What happened is at some point, you'd pressed or press and held CTRL and Shift at the same time. Try pressing the two together or holding them for a couple of seconds and repeat until é becomes "?" again.

Pressing CTRL and Shift switches the Keyboard to French mode or something, I believe, and that's why we get the accented e.
 
I started cleaning it. I am no expert but I don't see any quality issues whatsoever.
