Showoff your SHORTY 12G SHOTTY (14" or under and Mods)!

It involves back boring the barrel in order to provide a smoother transition for the shot - essentially re-contouring the inside of the barrel to cause less disruption to the shot as it accelerates, a full job also ports the end of the barrel to reduce muzzle lift. The net result is tighter patterns at longer distances without using chokes. So your 14 performs more like an 18 or 20 inch with chokes. It also increases slug accuracy and range.

I wish I was able to get a new locking lug for it :-(

Where can you get the short barrels for the Marine 870? Sheesh - I would love one of those. Either stainless or nickle plated, whatever. I dig that silver look - I have a laminate buttstock and forend that are identical to the laminate used on the Ruger Scout, and think that would make an awesome pairing.

I have a 12.5 and 14 plated dlask, I was hoping factory Remington for the 14 but it just hasn't worked out.

I had these plated by a friend who works at an industrial shop that does commercial work. He just made it one of his lunch hour projects, basically the cost to plate was nil.

+1
Ted, that is the nicest Marine Magnum I have seen!
Is that a Dlask 14"? Where did you get the parts plated? Details man...give us details...

Thanks! Glad you like it... it'sbeen quite a bit of work and expense but now I can run my marine magnum police with 12.5 and plated cap, 14 and plated +1 and of course regular configuration of 18 inch and +2.

As I posted before, the work was done by a friend at his company's plating shop, they do work applying finishings for oilfield gear.

Tighter patten is a known affect of VC but increased velocity even with birdshot with my 14" was noticeable by other shooters.

Have they(VC) got some sort of patent on the idea? It's surprising to me that shotgun manufacturers don't just lengthen the forcing cone from the factory if it's such an obvious improvement.

Edit, read the Tacord link and it seems VC has 3 US patents.

It doesn't always help patterning, and I've been told the quality of the cone's finish makes at least as much difference as the increased length itself.

Polishing a lengthened cone to mirror smoothness is not really practical in a typical mass production gun.

I hear you on the polishing..... some of the big players seem to have difficulty polishing the chambers.

would my $99 backpacker impress anyone?

i have a video of me one handing it at night
I can only speak for myself, and I would say no.

Being that this is in the B&G shotgun forum, I'd personally prefer to see the thread title have the word "pump" added to it.

Black and Green means not a duck gun.

The backpacker is not a traditional duck gun so posting in the sporting section would probably ruffle some feathers.

I want a shorter LOP. Might look for an adjustable M4 stock off of the 590A1 Tac series on the EE or the Hogue short LOP. Might buy a couple and see what I like. Don't want a full sized stock on a SBS.

Be careful wth pistol grips on the 590. It's hard to use the tang safety fast with them. Never had one on my 590 but just by thinking about I could see it being difficult. Others would probably agree

quick pic but here's my Remington Police Marine Magnum, 14 inch electroless nickel plated barrel, plated +1 scatter gun technologies, vang comp follower and oversize safety, A-tacs buttstock with a rubberized coating.

That's a nice one for sure, what a beauty. :)
