Kind of shocked people are accusing you of being a lefty Ardent, all this neo liberal bootstraps talk reads very conservative to me. Jobs at McDonalds and 7/11 don't allow for long excursions and we are not all dealt the same lot in life; all I'm saying.
Anyways let's make up and go for a plane ride, meet me in Nimpo when it's Salmon season![]()
I agree that month aside; Canadians should be out there appreciating our very easily accessible wilderness. Especially in the West, there isn't a major city that isn't ringed by parks etc. Even some in town for those who can't afford vehicles who's bootstraps are pulled as high as they go.
Only those in a rush to fit you in a box that’s convenient and affirming of their narrative think I’m a lefty, for being able to respect people (and politicians) despite opposing views. Some people’s depth of understanding and deductive reasoning is an image or line of text deep, that’s telling on the rest of their views.
I don’t fit in a convenient box, that’s troublesome for those who really need to push you into one and believe they understand you. I’m fiscally and firearms conservative, socially I believe in a truly free country which means freedom goes both right and left, I stay out of your gun cabinet and bedroom. That incorporates thinking from both sides of the spectrum. Environmentally I’m very concerned, as anyone who observes and lives for the outdoors ought to be, as the environmental collapse is real, I’ve seen it on several continents. I don’t tow the party line of hunting every predator and mature male in BC relentlessly helps ecosystems, or that we can manage wilderness better than wildlife, and I do see blame for ourselves in most of the problems. While I do believe hunters can save habitat in places like Africa, and when well managed hunting has its place in preserving and sharing the outdoors here.
In other words everything is a spectrum, and if I ever believe one solution fits my beliefs I’ll know I’ve lost my way. It is absolutely asinine so many here are jumping on the bandwagon of adopting an entire political platform that if they looked at it objectively is not in their own interests. That’s the brilliance of Trumpian era populism, getting people to vote and rally against their own benefit on soundbites of information while feeling highly informed. Protecting wilderness isn’t something nice to do, it’s the future of this blue dot hurtling through infinity, more people need to go outdoors and look at the stars. What they worry about doesn’t even ####ing register, but there are things to worry about, it’s just not identity politics.
As for going flying while I get the jest in the comment, selfishly that fleeting time is for my kids and a few close friends, but I never say never the world’s complicated. There’s a few forum members I’ve flown and boated to the middle of nowhere with, they know who they and we don’t agree on everything. But they are damn good people who have one thing in common, good hearts and a love of the outdoors.
