Spray painted rifles

sifting thru this thread got me motivated.
I've been putting together another one of the many shorty lee enfield no 1 rifles I have assembled over the years.
It has a varnished , checkered wood stock which needs refinishing anyways. It is a real ice hunting stock and fits this action really well and has my LOP already.
Anyhow, I was gonna strip the varnish and refinish the entire stock to a tung oil finish but that takes some time and careful attention and I want to hunt with this rifle in a couple weeks if not sooner. I have hand painted a tonne of rifle stocks which i have loads of pics of but that was the past.
So yesterday I scrounged in the yard for some suitable foilage and where I haven't mowed were these clusters of small ferns that almost resemble cedar which is my prefered tree to use for doing camo. Anyhow, the little 8inch or so long ferns were kinda tough to work with but I'm happy with how it turned out. Busnell engage 2-7x32 in vortex rings on a custom made mount. I painted the whole rifle and optic. Still needs clear coat but that can wait a few days

The machete previously was a light grey on the blade, and the handle was fluorescent orange.

It's in the shop right now with the first coat of matte clear setting. I'll give it 3 coats and then let her dry and cure for a few days before I handle her.
I'm sure the deer won't be too impressed but I am pretty happy with it

This is my fave so far. Do you have to get special paint for the barrel? When I was a dumb teen I rattlecanned the headers of my Camaro bright red - the heat melted the paint and I just about gassed myself to death with smoke and fumes within a mile.
Depending which paint you use, usually I've seen it bake and darken, but unless you're cooking the barrel like an MG it didn't flake off.
I've had zero issues with chipping, flaking, or melting on the barrels.
The rustoleum camo paint holds up pretty well to heat.
The guys down south running suppressors have a had a different experience though.
Most of the paint just cooks off and rubs away after a few hundo rounds.
You can buy engine enamel with ceramic resins spray paint which bakes on, however it is only available in a limited number of colors, like flat black etc.
Looking at painting an old shotgun flat black - blueing is almost gone, so going to sand it down to bare metal. What paint would y'all recommend? Doesn't need to be highly heat resistant, I just want something that's not going to scratch or chip easily, with good adhesion.
Rustoleum camo colors, or the krylon camo if you want it ULTRA flat ie: zero shine whatsoever.
If you want it flat/satin black then the reg approriate rustoleum will work fine.
Light scuff with steel wool, decrease with alcohol or brake cleaner, full send with the psssssh psssh.
One i did recently, but is getting redone to change the pattern add some dark green along with the other colors...

Dish Soap method?
Can't use this one any more, but it sure was fun when we could! I don't regret painting it, dug it out of the safe in case anyone wanted to see another quick dirty rattle can job.
