Stag 10 build and range review

My MRA barrel and handguard arrived today :). They said they provide an attachment for attaching a 1/2” torque wrench for tightening. This was in the handguard box... is this for tightening the barrel? How the heck does this fit onto the barrel??

I'm not familiar with their handguard/barrel nut but that look like a barrel nut wrench. Did you receive a barrel nut with it? Tt might be in the handguard?

See if this helps. The basics are:
-make sure you have the correct tools. To install the handguard you need a vice, torque wrench, and something to hold the receiver in the vice. I use a reaction rod from TNA.
-You insert the barrel in the upper receiver
-Put aeroshell grease on the upper receiver threads, twist on the barrel nut, season the threads by torqueing and backing off the barrel nut a few times. Then torque the barrel nut to manufacturer spec.
-Install the gas tube and gas block
-Install the handguard over the barrel nut and torque to spec
-Install a thread protector or muzzle device off your choice.

Sorry I'm at work but I think those are all the steps. Easy stuff.

You guys are spot on. I see how it all works now. Quick question. The barrel nut spins down all the way until it is like 1 or 2mm from bottoming out agains the upper. Not much room for tightening? At least it doesn’t seem like it?

Thanks so much for this info. Regarding the Aeroshell grease... are there other options? All I can find is large $70 tubes on Amazon?

My barrel nut seems to not have much room for tightening. When spun into place, it freely spins what appears to be all the way to the bottom of the upper receiver threads. I don't think there is much (if any) room for tightening on the threads, it might be bottomed out before getting that far?

You can get little containers from TNA for like $10, does like 6 barrels. Or order from Aircraft Spruce.

Are you experiencing that with barrel placed in the receiver, already?

I just placed the barrel onto the receiver, then handbombed the barrel nut in place and it seemed to almost bottom out. Zero threads showing and maybe 1-2mm gap between the barrel nut and the receiver itself. I was just wondering if when I torque to 35ft/lbs will there be any thread left to do so?

Just thoughts.....

If you have a caliper, you can measure, and see if you will bottom out. Can also dry fit the barrel nut, without the barrel, and you will know if any portion of that 1-2mm gap will be usable. If you can bottom out the barrel nut tight to the receiver face, with no barrel on, and when you fit the barrel with no visible gap between the barrel shoulder and receiver (and have 1-2mm gap still at your barrel nut), as a rough call, you should be good.

Only one way to find out! ;)

You could always use shims if it doesn't.

Mil grease, lapping tool, shims and the correct Barrel nut with torque wrench is the equipment required when installing black rifle hand guards.

Any suggestions on CGN dealers who have shims? Hand tightened the barrel nut on mine and it was perfectly in line with the gas tube hole on the upper. No where near torqued down correctly by hand. But won't tighten any further.

Using stag hand guard and matching barrel nut.

Lapping tool ?
I never used a lapping tool installing a handguard, am I doing something wrong ?

When the brake is installed it’s upside down and on an angle. How do I get it upright? And correct? I’ve removed and rethreaded the thing like 10 times
