Where are you getting this info, or are you just sitting down and quitting?

Talk to your representatives, MAIL out letters and donate or join to the CSSA and NFA. I have donated before but just went and bought 2 year memberships to both. I'm not made of money but EVERY little bit they can get helps. The NFA is supposedly working with TSE and CSC to provide the RCMP with info to support the Swiss Arms being a variant of the Sig 540, NOT the 550.

Exactly, the reason the 12.6 "limbo" issue wasn't resolved in our favor was because the huge majority of owners affected just sold their stuff or dutifly turned it in without even whimpering. When the number was 50,000 people in 1998 there was a government incentive to solve the problem, by 2005 it was down to about 5,000 and only about 100 of us bothered to fight it. The result was the government no longer had any reason to solve the problem.

The larger the number of owners there are, the more likely that the issue is resolved in our favor.

All the people who cut and run or try to salvage their money, guarantee a loss.

I've seen this type of scenario play out now several times...

Sadly canadian gun owners on average seem to be moral cowards who talk a good game while listing their swiss arms (insert potentially affected firearm here) on the EE so that it becomes someone else's problem.

Who cares and you're missing the point. Confiscation in the past was done with the aid of the registry. As for the current non-restricted SAN owners and no registry, your comment may be valid. Hopefully the RCMP will keep the status quo with the SAN rifles and everyone can get back to #####in about their cost :p

The issue at hand is a whole lot larger than the SAN rifles. Next are the CZs and there are a whole lot more CZ owners in non restricted than there are swiss arms owners, imagine if those go prohib, it'll be the great cluster fack of the century.

If they do go prohib the last thing I want is to be grandfathered. I bought this rifle because it was non restricted. I want to continue to take it out in the bush and shoot it wherever it is safe to do so. I don't want a $3500 paperweight.
If they go prohib I want to be compensated for the full retail value of my rifle, my magazines and all my accessories including taxes. I don't care if it's the RCMP (tax dollars) or the importers that pay for it as long as it isn't coming out of my pocket. I also don't care if it bankrupts the retailers involved since as far as I'm concerned this is their responsibility and their error that has put us where we are.
I did nothing other than buy a non restricted rifle that I've been dreaming of owning for years and then someone screwed up and gave the RCMP the ammo they needed to initiate an investigation. Now I'm looking at either losing that rifle or becoming a criminal if I keep it. There is no paper trail to me since I bought it used but I don't want to risk losing all my rifles just to keep this and hide it away and never use it.

I can think of many better places to have $4000 tied up than in a conversation piece that just makes me angry explaining how I used to be able to take this out and use it as a non restricted then one day between the @$$clowns in the RCMP lab, the local importers and Swiss Arms themselves that let a few C/A uppers slip through with the regular shipments F'd it up for all of us.
If these go prohib you will be lucky to get $1000 for one since there will be very few people out there that can buy one and even fewer willing to spend $3000 for a paperweight.

From what I've read in all the posts in all the threads so far I'm not expecting this to work out well for us but I'm hoping someone can pull a rabbit out of their @$$ and save this disaster from turning into a burning pile of $hit.

It's not looking good for us and from the sounds of it the RCMP have a few more on their list.

I have yet to hear a word from the NFA or CSSA and am hoping they are busy building a defense rather than posting here to keep us updated.

Exactly illustrating my point about moral cowardice.

Waa waa it's someone else's problem to deal with. I'm far too busy to do it myself.

YOU as the owner and concerned citizen HAVE TO hold your member of parliament and ministers to account by showing up at his local office for a meeting and send a hand written letter to them explaining YOUR displeasure with this situation.

The NFA and CSSA don't mean anything to the minister and MP, you do as angry Joe Voter who took time to write a letter.

Form letters mean very little. When you get a form letter from an MP or minister you basically react by trashing it, they do the same thing to your form letter.

Sit down and handwrite a letter yourself, it will have a real affect.

I will gladly accept someone elses problem if it comes as a Heavy Metal with a low round count

I don't know what more we could do aside from creating an organization that will lobby elected government officials for our firearm rights, just like the controversial NRA in the US. I know we have the NFA but frankly I don't see them doing much about this. has anyone even heard the NFA's position on this reclassification?

I think we need an organized, funded, experienced and aggressive lobby organization in Ottawa with a lawyer/power broker on staff who's sole purpose is to defend our firearm rights, maybe this can be done by the NFA maybe it can be done by something else.

If its a money issue then I'm sure all of us would have no problem with higher membership fees if it means we can aggressively defend our gun ownership rights.
Both the orgs are working hard on it. I have spoken to leaders from both. Not sure why you would think are not doing something.

No, nothing is set in stone. Their status is currently under review, and waiting on technical info from TSE and Swiss Arms. The FRT has, to the best of my knowledge, not been pulled yet, and might not be, pending the information provided to the FRT lab.
Regardless of the lineage question that has to be proven by the end of the month, there are still the C/A rifles that are going to have to be dealt with regardless of what happens with the lineage. The lack of any buy back or exchange program being set up in case people have one of these that slipped through makes me think that the importers and retailers are not willing to sort the issue out on their own, they are simply waiting to see if the RCMP prohibits the whole line and moves to have them all turned in and/or confiscated costing the importer and retailers nothing barring a costly court battle.

The AT-9, AT-22, FAMAS, SPAS-12, and others were all pre-registry, and were collected through dealer's logbooks.

That was only a few scattered, extra zealous police departments which did that.

When the owner was contacted and asked if he still had the gun, and replied he had previously sold it to someone at a gun show, the matter was closed. But if he was stupid enough to admit he still had it, they sent an agent right over to confiscate.

There are a number of members of this board who's experience was quite a bit different regarding this matter.

Mike, you might want to listen to Canadian Reload Radio episode 161, released today. Full indepth reports on what the deal is surrounding the swiss arms, and then a feature interview with the NFA's registered lobbyist with the Canadian government.

Ignorance of what Canadian firearm organisations are doing isn't an excuse. Tune in and get informed....

The lineage issue aside, the RCMP could not prohibit the whole line based on a couple of C/A rifles getting through, as there are no legal grounds to prohibit a non-C/A rifle. Naturally the C/A rifles would have to be turned in (and hopefully replaced by the importer).

Right on. Even before the LGR was officially pronounced dead, I had stated in CGN forums that the CPC couldn't care less about the gun owners past the bolt actions and the shotguns, and that the RCMP - as a state within a state - will get even by reclassifications. Very early on I was told by an insider to the RCMP that they will reclassify and they were convinced that the government will do nothing to shorten their leash. I wrote to Harper and all his ministers and advisors on gun law and never received a reply other than one from my local MP that was meaningless drivel. I kept donating to CPC until the RCMP started reclassifications and I have informed the CPC why I will NOT donate until they stand by us gun owners. And, by the way, I have personally not been affected by the reclassifications but for me it's a matter of principle, a notion that is unfortunately lacking among politicians of all stripes. So, who has the death of the LGR really served with the exception of the CPC?

and people cheered when the long gun registry was revoked.........
this was bound to happen next, bring back the registry?

They RCMP can if SAN does not provide proof of otherwise that they are not PE90/550 .If the Swiss Arms are built on the SIG 550 Semi Auto receiver it wont make a difference because it was built on 550 receiver which is prohibited from possession and import for civilain sales.

Lineage issue aside! Read the whole post carefully. My comment was in regards to the C/A issue only.

180 you are missing what the greater consequences are to this startling revelation with the issue of the 550 Select Fire receivers used in the SAN series of rifles the whole line of SAN firearms is jeopardy of being classified as Prohibited .

Seriously? The point I was making obviously went over your head.

My point was LINEAGE ISSUE ASIDE, the C/A issue is relatively minor. So the implication is we should focus on the lineage issue. Brian46 was talking about the C/A issue, and my point was it is not the real issue compared to the lineage question. As I said, go back and read the post carefully. The whole post, including what I quoted in #34.

I will also add that I understand some retailers may be waiting this out. If they all go prohib, there's no point trying to track down a couple of C/A's.
