Not to press my point, but that was a discussion i had with the former Min of Justice in quebec, Sam Hamad the minister of work in Quebec and Josee Verner last summer...

And it seems they do not care about the bottle...as long as the juice is good...

Press it the way you see fit !

KPA

Yes let nothing stand between you and getting the message out. In my opinion something is better then nothing.

They'll keep pushing until their boss, the Minister in charge, puts his pants on so to speak and orders them to cut out the BS...

does the r.c.m.p. make the decision on gun classification . if so they are doing a terrible job of it. reversals on dlask shotguns walther 22 and now this mess. i will be sending a letter to my local m.p. and will be making myself heard on this. ifthey get away with this ,things will only go down hill. can.am deserves our support.putting any company in this position is beyond everything.

I called the CFC Techs again today...

Information changes depending on who you talk to so you have to read between the lines. I got a particularly chatty Tech today who said she couldn't comment about the situation but then went ahead and told me what she thought:rolleyes:

Here's how it went down:
The lady said that the T97's in the system are now classified as 12.2!!!! Full Auto!!!! WTF??? I'm even more confused. If anything I would think it would be a 12.3. Mine only fires semi auto...???

She said that at present my particular T97 is restricted (based on what is in the system under the registration number) so I can still take it to the range.

When I pressed her further as to why it was under review she said "I can't guess or comment, but what do you think?" I didn't answer.

Then she said "what if you could alter them easily"?

I said "well that may be but mine is a semi auto" -

She said "yes but it may be easily converted. That's what the problem is." Now what she meant by this I don't know, all I can do is report what she said.

So she basically told me what she said she wasn't allowed to comment on.

She also hinted that maybe someone was "trying to pull a fast one" and that was what alerted them....???? What did she mean by that???

This is very frustrating as I have gotten different responses by every person I have talked to at the registry and the CFC.

I would think the Registry has to sh!t or get off the pot soon regarding the Type 97. Pressure has to be mounting.

I don't like that they may be casting aspersions against the dealers. I don't like that they may consider this rifle a 12.2.

I think that's exactly what it is, some dealers are being slapped for bringing in large volumes of Canadian legal, "evil" guns.

I think this will *gently* persude dealers not to try such ventures going forward. Too much financial risk.

If the CanAm shipment was $1,000,000 worth, that is around 2000 rifles. The powers that be are trying to find a way, *any* way, to stop this.

Well if you were trying to discourage these companies from doing business , I could find a much less potentially catastrophic way like lets say no import permit that would be a no brainer , The issue here is that these companies have a large amount of capital $$$$$$$ tied up in product that was till several weeks ago legal to import and now is prohibited .These businesses simply cannot afford a loss of this magnitude with no way to export these guns they are forced to sit on inventory till they destroy them .This may very well mean that after the dust settles these businesses will simply no longer exist .
The other question that begs to be answered so who are they going to go after next Wolverine ,Arms East , Questar,The Shooting Edge or are they going to be coming after us ?After all we are considered to be the gun crime problem in Canada by the Chiefs Of Police Assocation and many of the senior and middle management personnel NOT The CRIMINALS That use Firearms in the commission of a Crime , BUT US LEGAL LAW ABIDING CITIZENS !!!!!!!

My answer would be. "what am I supposed to think? Is the RCMP now making government policy?"

Honestly, WTF is that supposed to mean?

If she is saying the RCMP is punishing Canadian businesses then this is really getting silly. They would be operating way outside their mandate, forget jurisdiction.

Yeah - I was surprised she asked this. She was very pleasant, but she left me confused.

Hmmm, hopefully you got her name. If so I would call and ask for her directly. Transcribe the call.

Tell her that her comments have been bothering you and that you would like her to clear up the confusion. Play coy, like your scared and very shy. Transcribe both conversations and put them in a letter to all the priviously stated individuals. If things go badly then forward it to the media. The RCMP is very scared of further embarasments these days. If possible record your further communications.

Sounds to me like the rumour mill in the RCMP is going full tilt as well. I suspect that most of them aren't to sure either.

I'm not interested in doing any of that. It wouldn't accomplish anything anyway. My only reason for calling is to find out my registration status and to gather more information.

X2- what I really don't like about this is the position Can Am is now in. What is he supposed to do with $$$$ worth of potentially prohibited firearms? The kicker is that if they are prohibited, then there's the matter of all those who have paid in full/put down a deposit. I'm sure he did his due diligence before investing $$$$ into buying inventory, and for the rug to be pulled out from under him after the inventory has been bought and shipped is pretty lame.
