The CANADIAN Ruger Gunsight Scout Discussion Thread

Just got a pmag for my 308. There seem to be some rotation front to back that is roughing up the feeding and makes it harder to remove the mag.

Anyone have similar issues? Remedies?

fun rifle!

I just installed the XS rail on mine, now I need to decide on a scope! I have never been so unsure on what to buy, I can't decide between a 1-4, 2-7 or a 2.5-8...........

Also can I get away with low rings over the rear sight?

I have a 1-6x in 30mm warn QD rings and it just clears with a 42mm bell. I had a 3x9-40mm in leupold qd lows but had to cut the xs rail back to the action to clear the bell.

Is the barrel contour for the 223 the same as the 308. I was wondering if they are different and if that might be the reason that Ruger is yet to offer the 223 version with a synthetic stock, since it would save approximately a pound off the weight of the rifle. I see that Ruger offers the synthetic stock for sale separately on there web site.

The .223 is available with a synthetic stock....

Not according to the Ruger website

Epps has one on special..... https://ellwoodepps.com/ruger-m77-g...tte-black-black-synthetic-m77-gss-145160.html

It would be nice if Ruger made a batch in .358 Winchester.:)

Agreed. A .358 synthetic would be stellar. Ruger seems receptive to customer wishes. I have made a request to Ruger CEO Chris Killoy.
(go to the Ruger website and there is an option to "tell the CEO). Hey..you never know.)

I have 6 requests in so far for a Stainless laminate 358 scout, as well a 7 requests for a 35 Whelen guide model.

Fingers crossed......

A whelen guide gun would be cool.... As for the .358, why not source a frontier?

Good point SBrad. I owned one years ago and sold it here. Great gun but the scout trumps it imho. Better balance, higher capacity and DM. I'm originally from your area and like yourself I appreciate toting a short handy rifle through the eastern bush.

I have been reading and starting my own thread about scout rifles lately, Just got onto the concept of it. I do like the concept and looks like I may purchase one in 16.5 stainless synthetic with a vortex scout scope. Can't wait, How far and accurate can are any of you getting with a scout scope. I will consider a traditional scope if it doesn't work out, but am buying it for the reason its a scout.
Iam hoping I won't be disappointed. I would like to be accurate out to 3-400m

Thanks.

Haven't shot 3-400m with mine, but with the right ammo mine has been sub MOA at 100m. The scout scope might be very difficult at 3-400m without a bench since the long eye relief makes target acquisition pretty hard when you're hanging on with just shooting sticks!

Well I will eventually find out, just purchase the ruger scout 16.5 in synthetic with stainless barrel today. What small handy rifle can't wait to get it out
