I read it is as bad news. I read it as PSA is not interested or expressed a very limited interest and we could possibly end up with Bren-style debacle when platform limitations are multiplied with NR barrel conversion issues. I am still interested in JAKL platform and might give it chance, but I wish it was PSA barrel on PSA upper. I don't consider RESTRICTED option at all, I have lot enough $ and guns to R status.

This absolutely. If it’s not NR I don’t see the point in spending my hard earned money on something that I can only take to a range. The pricing on these is what will determine whether or not they’re worth pulling the trigger on. My bet is that they’ll likely be overpriced once the conversions are factored in. Really hoping they get the price right on these and not gouging the customer base.

Agree, this is how I read it too.
 
Or people can wait maybe in two years or three after they sell enough plain jane rifles and pistol they will make a 20" HBAR DMR. THis is usually the next step of the life cycle.

A proper factory doesn't just put a barrel on and sell it. It needs to be engineered, tested.....that needs manpower and set up change yada yada. Having a half baked product is just adding risk to reputation. Letting a 3rd party do the conversion is the FASTEST and lowerest risk way to bring this to the CDN market and avoiding the reputation/engineering/setup issue. No one is willing take more risk and tie up more money - this is the reality of having crappy laws. more laws regulations = higher costs!


I will be happy to see that IRG and PSA can at least get something into the country so there are more choices. People who need cheaper NR there are many local choices available.

I agree with what you’ve stated here. I do think it’s good that these are coming into the country in any available capacity. It’s just a bummer that we’ll have to wait and see if an already reliable platform will still be reliable after NR conversions (like the NR BREN situation). Nobody wants to pay a premium for potential issues that could have been avoided by a factory NR configuration from the outset. Again, I’m aware that it was never stated that these would come directly from PSA in an NR configuration. I’m just echoing the sentiment of those who were expecting rifles complete with 18.6” barrels from the factory.
 
I don't know why barrels were chosen, maybe because they can readily and proveably sourced, but the point may be to get the approved part, the lower receiver, and other Jakl-specific upper components manufactured and shipped from the PSA through IRunGuns, where they could be assembled and tested locally. This way you are never sending a "new type" of semi-auto across the border to be flagged, and it spreads the risk across multiple partners.

PSA is already producing and teasing many "retro" and "clone" style rifles in their lineup, as evidenced by last year and this year's shot show presentations.
 
If they keep the NR configurations at $2500 or less, they’ll sell very well. I myself would buy one in a heart beat at that price. More than that and these become much less attractive.

Depends how you shoot a tavor
If you do a modern fighting triangle stance it’s just fine, if you blade your stance Old school it’s not good … and if you have a big potato face then I dunno.. ymmv

Looks Ak like, uses 5.56 Ak mags

Psa has a bit in their website for what people want them to make
.308, vuk, bullpup etc
