The Templar Thread, 5.56 by Crusader Arms / Spectre LTD

I see that the stock appears to have at least one hole for a QD sling swivel, which leads me to 2 questions: is the F5 stock strong enough to support the rifles' weight day in and day out? And is there provision for a frontal sling mount (or do we have to buy/mount one ourselves on the rail?)

Let's see that thicc piston and gas block.

To be honest, I'm not quite sure how to go about that quite yet. It has to come out the front of the Gas Block, which means that the Hex-Nut on top of the Gas Plug must be there for tightening and loosening said Plug into and out of the Gas Block. But for the life of me, I cannot get that Gas Plug to budge even a mm with a ratchet-driver. Anyone have any bright ideas? In the absence of a manual I am currently at a loss. Next up will be to apply some heat to the area....

You mean the same way that the Type 81 SR's Buttstock supports that rifle's weight? LOL! Too soon for the SR owners? Sorry, but you just gotta laugh when all else fails....

Yes, I believe that the F5 stock is plenty strong enough to support the rifle's weight day in and day out. It just isn't the same density and rigidity as the polymer that Magpul uses in the ACR Buttstock, leading to increased flex, particularly when extended to maximum length. That said, although there is some lateral flex in the Buttstock it is plenty solid enough when shouldered. There is no perceptible slop with the rifle in firing position, so no worries there. I wouldn't hesitate butt-stroke somebody with the F5 Stock, I just wouldn't swing at them such that the impact is sideways with the force applied against the Hinge and Locking Tab of the Stock.

Hi Mark. Can you get a snap shot of the feed ramps? From the upper from underneath and maybe one from the ejection port with the upper and lower attached. Im curious about feed way engagement.

Also what is the Philips/flat head bolt on the charging handle slot? Curious about how to take the gas system apart. Is the templar similar to the b&t apc take down?

Here you go. Note that the Feed Ramps do not extend into the steel Trunnion as they do on a properly machined AR15 / C7. Aside from that, everything looks normal to me....

The Phillips-head Cross-Bolt at the front of the Charging Handle raceway is a stop for return of the CH to its resting position. Personally, I'd rather see socket fasteners akin to those used elsewhere on the rifle as the Phillips head somehow looks out of place.

The Templar's Gas System does not disassemble like that of the B+T APC family, although the principle of removing a Gas Plus to free up a Spring-loaded Piston remains the same. To strip the Templar's system for maintenance you must first clear the firearm, then remove the Gas Plug using a 10mm socket. The thread pitch is standard "Lefty Loosey, Righty Tighty". Once you remove the Gas Plug the Piston will pop up in the Plug's place under spring tension. Simply tilt the firearm until the Gas Piston and Spring fall forwards out of the firearm. The Gas System is now stripped for cleaning/maintenance.

Bartok5,

How long to get yours? I want to order directly from the manufacturer but don’t want it to take forever.

Also, anyone know when the other colors will be out?

Mine was a private purchase, shipped New In Box from a buyer who suddenly acquired other priorities. I paid him the standard retail price and saved myself the GST and shipping. It was just a fluke that the rifle I wanted (with Trigger Tech Trigger) happened to appear on the EE just days after the previoius owner received it.

The factory ships from ON, and they apparently have rifles ready to ship. Don't know where you are located, but you should be able to do the math on how long it would take to arrive.

Anyone have any theories as to the purpose of that hole on the Right side of the Upper Receiver behind the Ejection Port and Above the screws securing the Rear Take-Down Assembly? It seems to serve no apparent purpose....

My understanding is it’s there only to be able to access the screw to fasten the Steel Cam plate insert.
