The Type 97 is back . . .

The truth hurts sometimes Deckard. The Type 97 fiasco was a big shiit sandwich that we all inadvertently (and stupidly) made.

Unfortunately we had to take a bite from it too.

Also, I don't believe there is any hate there. Just a cautionary tale for the future, that had to be told when nobody else would.

How many guns have been banned/had FRTs held off indefinitely these past 5 years of zero hype? At least 6 come to mind. That is their agenda. The anties want to ban guns. They recently published their scary gun list. I don't recall mentioning any of them. That's how they roll. Maybe we should troll the AR15 thread? Pictures, after all...

The issue with the last batch was simple...it was VERY easily converted to full auto...it was the FACTORY'S FAULT for that.

Type 97 2.0...

Is being redesigned completely...where it will not take 2 minutes to make it full auto and IS a complete redeisgn internally compared to the military issue, full auto/burst mode capable model.

WHAT is the issue here?

AR-15s...there are MILLIONS of full auto models...but the civvie version we get here are not the same, missing parts and so on. How is that any different then what they are doing for the T-97?

Too many haters...sorry you guys can't take your $$$ range toys outside to play/hunt with!!! :)

Your not necessarily wrong. It's just that the RCMP have an awful habit of ignoring logic and classifying guns based on appearance and name. Half our prohibs in canada are classified as such purely because of the name they go by and not because of their functional characteristics. I want this firearm in my safe as much as the next guy, but I'm just not sure that's a realistic expectations.

These are 2 of the many ways of how they ban guns:
1. Based on popularity. They love to do it based on that.
The best example of the distant past is the 25's/32's and short barrels. Because there were so many of them.
But that was based on an OIC.
2. Based on the lack of popularity, because there will be very few people to cry about it.
How many Armi Jagers were out there? How many Police shotguns? How many BD3008's?

They can also ban them before the importation or after.
But if a gun is too popular, it is easier to stop the importation than gather them back from people's houses.
That's how they did it first time, and chances are that they will try it again, especially if they will be non-restricted (not registered).
And the t97 was not the only one stopped before sales. Remember the SCAR?
(I tend to believe that the future popularity of the SCAR played a role in that).

They recently published their scary gun list. I don't recall mentioning any of them.
Because they didn't bother, there were so very few of them (Armi Jagers, etc.)
But you recall mentioning the 58's and the Mini14's, don't you?
They didn't ban the 58's because they were already in.

Guess 58s are going too.
As I said before, the 58's are already in. And today, a big percentage of 58's are no longer registered.
Neither are the Tavors, M14's, SKSes, Mini14's and so on.
But the T97 didn't have that chance. There were very few inside Canada
(but that didn't matter, anyway, since they were all registered, including the ones with 18.5"+ barrel).
It was much easier to ban the importation of the big boat full of them, by classification.
And don't bet too much money that they will not look for ways to do it again.
If they will find it hard to do it straight in your face, they will try to postpone it.
Alberta Tactical posted on this forum that he was told by the Forensic Lab
that from now on, an assessment of new firearm can take 1.5 years, IIRC. There you have it.
Don't be so sure they can't milk that period of time and push the classification until after the election.

And, IMO, another important fact here is that after the death of the LGR,
they are more careful what guns they let in, because it is harder to grab them after they are in people's hands.

Maybe we should troll the AR15 thread? Pictures, after all...
You don't have to. Don't you fukken worry.
As I said many times, just wait until the cons fall from power (apparently they try hard to be hated by everybody coast to coast).
But since we reached that AR subject, this is how the next bans will start: the registered guns first (mostly pistols and AR's).

Good to know the hate fiction persists
You are so fukken wrong. I never hated you. I really respect you like a valuable person involved in the movement for gun rights.
You were my internet friend. And you still are. We shared so many jokes during the years.
Yes, I can take a STFU from a friend, or whatever else he cares to throw at me from time to time.

But now you have to get some fresh air and see the light. Give this gun a chance.
Just stop for a second and postpone your enthusiasm and exuberance concerning the subject of this t97
until AFTER the first shipment gets in the hands of the people.
Let North Silva do their thing, while, based on past experiences, let's keep a low profile and
refrain from doing anything that could attract undue attention.
After that, yes, go ahead and start a consolidated thread and the whole shabang.

Hey guys, these guns were not supposed to arrive until April/ may 2013. Its only February 3 today. Maybe we don't need to get all wound up just yet.

Correct.

Altho...the forum has been going a bit smoother ever since blaxsun (sp?) has been banned. Anyone know why he was? And if it is for a set amount of time or for good?

6 month,he wont be back he's happier where he is,cant blame him he was alittle too real for some people on here.

Thanks for the perspective Lector. Yeah it felt like getting a shytkicking from a friend, but I got the message long ago. I've changed, but not sure the anti-gun bureaucrats or professional gun banners have ever altered their long-established game plan that was conceived decades before the Internet was invented.

To real?!?!

More like couldn't stand anyone else not taking his word for the gospel and lord help you if you like and talk about a piece of gear that he doesn't!!! He was an elitist, a bully and a straight up a$$hole to noobs and people trying to get into the game...glad to see him gone. I assume he is spitting his poison over at glocktalk or m4carbine.net now

Well the 16 "noobs" who sent me a PM thanking/agreeing with me when I gave a very valid, long and well thought out response to blaxsun wanting to start is own "elite/super/epic/never been in combat but I know more then you/uptight AR operators" sub forum agreed with me.

I can sleep soundly at night knowing that you and "the 16 noobs" are protecting us against blaxsuns idea too start a sub forum.

Sleep tight knowing there are people out there that are friendly, encouraging and helpful to new people to the sport, not turning them away or having them stick to paintball and airsoft because the real deal is too hard to figure out (its not easy being a first timer trying to figure out our laws when no one else you know/in the family shoots). The sport NEEDS too grow, we need YOUNGER people and FEMALES especially.

When a new guy is excited finding out he can OWN guns in Canada...and doesn't know much more then that as I am sure 99% of what hes read up on and watched YouTube was American base...asks if he can go hunt with an AR-15 or shoot his pistol on his uncles farm he does NOT need people to call him a troll, an anti, an idiot or to "use (the crappy) search function". Those are both valid questions and there is NO reason we cannot do them other then the government says no.

Same goes with people wanting a Desert Eagle or an AK, they are well know guns, they are popular in movies and video games and they are COOL...but no, shame on him for not knowing better then to buy a "used and cheap .22LR to learn with".

I do not believe 9/10 "war stories" I am told in person. I pretty much believe ZERO of the ones some guy on a forum told me so when people use that as their proof or reason why X is better then Y cause they were in "combat" and they KNOW that if you had a HK in Afghanistan you'd be dead with a broken gun but alive and a hero if you had a Glock or they saw a Gerber blade melt in the sun!!! but their ESEE knife killed 3 terrorists and it was still on their belt and so on. Give it a break already.

There is a difference between giving some input and correcting people based on your own, very biased and unproven facts. These people are usually so cool and SO much better then everyone else they end up friend less and single but hey, at least they have their over priced toys and made up war stories to keep them from crying TOO much at night.

I recall looking at puctures of the original 97's guts. Hopefully they machine this updated model better. I wonder if theyll make a flat-top version as well? Or a target version like that import company sells(?)

Probably not...on both accounts. Its a $1000 gun...take it or leave it kinda deal. There is the Type 88 sniper model if you want an upgrade...which is a flat top and I hope a little cleaner on the inside as its a $3000 gun!!! I'd personally rather 2 Type 97s and a few crates off ammo if it were me :)

I played with one of the original 88's and the trigger was really nice. Especially compared to. tAvor.
