I can’t imagine an uglier stock than a weatherby, or an uglier bolt handle than a rem 700 (like the lines of the stock though, but those panels on the adl yuck)

Weatherby Vanguard is a nicer rifle in my opinion. The plastic stock is much better quality with less felt recoil than the Tikka. No arguments here about the great accuracy of the Tikka just that the plastic stocks cheapen the rifle. The wooden stocked Tikkas I have shot were much nicer shooting and a lot better looking. It's hard for me to find any love for plastic stocked guns but would take a Weatherby over a Tikka any day.

My two favourite "affordable" rifles are Weatherby Vanguards and Husqvarna 1900s, All of my Vanguards are laminate, wood or Bell and Carlson, I don't like the Vanguard synthetic stock but it is better than most other production synthetic stocks. Tikka and Browning beat the Vanguards as a lighter weight production rifle but they do not shoulder well for me and I prefer a floor-plate magazine.

Well, how about that Remington 783 abomination of a bolt handle?

I dislike Tikkas for their very limiting OAL mags and lack of aftermarket trigger options. But it’s actually their damn good looks that keep sucking me in. I think the Tikka T3x looks better than most factory offering out there. It’s all subjective. I would put a Savage Axis somewhere near the top of the ugliest factory rifle though. It makes me shutter just thinking about them.

Yeah the 783 and Axis get an honourable mention but I’m talking about real rifles :dancingbanana:

Imagine dropping 849.99 on this classic stalking rifle :dancingbanana:

So do some people realize that a stock is one of the easiest things you can change on a rifle? And that there is a plethora of options for Tikka's?

after spending $1000+ for a new rifle, you shouldn't have to spend another 3-400 for a new stock to make it "right". It should be "right", out of the box.

I have an Axis it shoots great going to buy another one my five shot groups are not ugly at all at 200 yards

They're average. I wouldn't say ugly. You want to be disappointed by a stock? Go fondle a Sako S20.

Yeah, that was downright disappointing. Had the features i wanted, but it was a front heavy brick, and reviews show mediocre accuracy... all for the low low price of $2000.

In all fairness, $1000 (especially CDN), is not much for a rifle...

That said, yes I agree they should come with a better OEM stock. But it probably won't compare with anything the aftermarket companies have already come up with.

'Right' is subjective though. Some find that the Tikka factory stocks don't negatively affect accuracy and are very weather resistant, so it's 'right' for them. When some buy a $1000 rifle, they would rather more of that money goes into the barrel and receiver than into the stock; so it's 'right' for them too. If aesthetics are the issue, that too is only subjective; if we all liked the same thing it would be a darn boring world. Some buy a Tikka knowing they will get a very reliable, very smooth, very accurate rifle with a middlin' stock that you can use all day in the field and lose no sleep over scratches or dings. To expect all that and a sweet stock for $1K, is very hard to do in this current economic climate.

I like them. The action shape is modern, even though I wish there was a short action option. The bolts are smooth, the barrels are excellent, and the guns generally shoot several different loads quite well right out of the box. Last one I got has a great trigger, I lowered it a little and it's right at 2 pounds 2 ounces with a little leeway to go.

But as others have said, that stock is a real ##### in the polymer models. Mine is a 7mm Rem Mag and I don't know why I do this to myself, the gun kicks like a cannon. Oh well. I would definitely buy one of the Superlight models, maybe a 22.4" rifle in .270 for a decent mountain rifle with (hopefully) a bit less kick. Talley's and a VX3HD should do 'er.

the downfall of the other 3 large companies actually drove up the value of the poor lonely Tikka, the quiet gurl in the corner that never spoke, never paraded around and showed off, just sat there quietly, as the other 3 loudmouths showed their true colors, went on a hiatus, screwed everyone over, disappointed from start to finish, and when everyone was sick of the theatrics and the drama, the quiet one in the corner got noticed.......and never disappoints, still isn't all that flashy, or voicetress, lacks drama and baggage, lawsuits, and yet still remains faithful.........I don't care how well they can dance, if they can't cuddle they get shown the door quick

Who are the three? Remington (obviously), Ruger and Savage?

I thought that was ruger...........where is winchester these days?? and the peeling dura-coat from browning?? then there is Sako, well we can't fix your ejection issues, so we're going to discontinue that model and try again.......only uglier and lighter this time around, but we'll throw in a few new features to keep your attention........
