Ghost ring sight

.
When I bought a set of these for my 20" Rossi win92, I got an extra set for the Ranch Hand.

... now I just have to find a Ranch Hand

DD - which model did you buy? How did you fit it to the rossi? Did you attach it at the rear by having it drilled and tapped or something?

I'n gonna go wrap-up in my HBC six-point wool banky (a Christmas gift from my wife in 1971) and relax on the deck in my seven-year-old Cabelas zero-gravity lounger (Size XL) ... and watch the stars (courtesy of Fusion) circle overhead

I'm going to have a scotch, and then bang my head a little with a mallet.

But in the end i'm sure we'll find a 'best' solution. :)

I don't know why in hell they HAD to make the frigging dovetail 15 thou bigger than standard!

This is BULL####! The frigging sights ought to work reasonably well without having to bugger around with extensive mods. This is my first Rossi and it's looking like it will be my LAST one too!

I think it's metric. It's about 10 mm.

It's just the ranch hand. My other rossi is fine.

I've had this problem before with short barreled firearms. They never think that shortening the barrel will affect the sight systems.

I don't think it's going to require 'extensive' mods tho. A .50 sight (which is available) will solve the problem, but the thing is i want to change the front to a fibre optic and i'm not sure steve sells that in a .50, and i'd like to change the rear sight too and i'm not sure that with a .50 it'll work the way I want it to. But i have little doubt we'll find the right parts, just takes a little digging.

Well they thought enough to but a .5 on the trapper length guns they sell.....why not just stick with that for the Ranchhand?

The idea that Rossi has never test fired a Ranchhand at a target is preposterous! Obviously there would be differences between the different calibers and bullet weights but there is alot of adjustment with the elevator so why not err on the high side with the front sight!

Pretty dumb really.

It should be ROSSI that makes this right though, not us having to bugger around looking for replacement sights. I think I'm going to send them a cranky letter.

Never a bad idea :)

I'd send one to them directly, and i'd also send one to br#####h who imports them:

Like i said, i've run into this issue before even with reputable gun companies, but they should be making it right.

Yeap.

GREAT news -

I just got off the phone with Joe at Dlask arms - he says he can manufacture what we need no problem. And he can do it to any height and with fibre optics or whatever we want.

The costs he mentioned are very reasonable and affordable, but before he gives a firm price he needs a gun to look at. I'll drop mine off for him and show him the problem and he'll have solutions for all of us.

That solves the problem nicely.

Nice, he might as well knock off a bunch while he's at it! Just eyeballing mine I think I could use one higher then the .5 Steve has.

I've mentioned to him this is an ongoing problem a lot of guys will have an issue with, and that he might want to consider a 'run' of them. Maybe it'll even bring the price down further.

Once i've got more info i'll let you guys know.

Sorry lads... late to the party. Has there been any consencus as to what constitutes the preferred holster for saddling up these ponies. Just an opinion, but the full holster (if that's the incorrect term my apologies) seems a bit unwieldy to me... a bit long in the draw.

The McQueen rig strikes me a feasible though, similiar to the Jim Buchanan setup.

Or is there a better option out there?

Yeah definitely ask him to do a bunch.

(from another website)

Why put a large loop in the lever?

some of it will be from (oh boy, I am showing my age) copying the tv show, "The Rifleman" with Chuck Connors. I am sure the gun used there was set up with the large loop so he could do his famous spinning the rifle to load the next round trick. Which in the real world can be done, but is dangerous as heck, and slower than molasses in January compared to normally racking in the next shell. I prefer the normal loop. I like the looks of the curved loop and lever as opposed to the straight. But in actuality, both work just as well.

1. Folks with large hands and heavy gloves....

2. Copying "The Rifleman"....only don't try that trick with a full-sized Marlin 336 or 30A. You WILL smack yourself in the face, leaving a profusely bleeding divot where the front sight made contact.

Never mind HOW I know...I just know

Reply from Steve in Texas ...

If you look back a bit, you'll find the text of a message that I sent to Steve Young in Texas (the Steve in StevesGuns).

He answered very promptly ... Bravo! ... almost immediately.

His email contained pictures of the products that he mentions, but they didn't survive the cut-and-past process. They're just blank spaces here, but are easy to see on his website.

Rossi doesn’t give much thought to the sights on any of their guns. Most of the round barrel carbines shoot high as well.
The best option is to replace both front and rear. My fronts are taller and if used with my
Low Semi-buckhorn rear sight - Round barrel

Or my Flat Top rear sight - Round barrel

Either of these will get you close .

Thanks,

Bravo

Foxer,

Good on ya for taking the initiative and contacting Dlask.

For years and years, my personal mantra has been, "It's amazing what you can get (or get done) just by asking nicely."

Case in point ... :)

Yeah - fifteen hours of frakkin' searching on the internet and in the end it gets solved with a 5 minute phone call :) He says he does that kind of stuff all the time, no sweat machining exactly what we need.

I'm still leaning towards a riser rather than a whole site (with a proper 3/8 inch dovetail on top). That way guys can put what they want on it to any height they like. But he'll look at it and see what he comes up with.
