UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

I just got mine from my first WTB post on the forum. It's in 357 Mag. / 38 Special.

It cycles the 357 perfectly, but the 38 will sometimes double feed (I'm guessing because they're smaller). I'm going to try a few different brands to see what works best.

I figured out how to take the thing apart to take a closer look and de-grease it a bit, had a bit of a panic attack about putting it back together, but I managed.

I noticed that there aren't really any videos on disassembly/reassembly. Would anyone be interested if i make a comprehensive video on how to strip this rifle for maintenance?

Absolutely and it would be awesome if you did one, but just so you know there is steve's videos (steve of steve's guns. he's the puma 92 guru).

Just an update regarding the Taurus Security system.

The CFO has come back to me saying that the locking system does not meet the requirement as a secure locking device.

I honestly don't believe they really looked into it and the safe answer was too say no. I replied with the video showing how easy it is to remove a trigger lock.

I'm pretty sure a judge would agree it's far superior but for folks who wanted the official CFO answer there it is.

What a surprise......pure incompetence!
Did you get that in writing? Any explanation?

No real explanation but I followed up with asking for the law here is the reply (including mine) (read from bottom up for continuity)

Perfect then the taurus system exceeds that requirement by far. Thank you.

Mr. Gotrek

Under the Firearms Act, the definition of secure locking device” means a device
(a) that can only be opened or released by the use of an electronic, magnetic or mechanical key or by setting the device in accordance with an alphabetical or numerical combination; and

(b) that, when applied to a firearm, prevents the firearm from being discharged.

I trust this answers your question. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact our office at 204-984-0715.
Thank you,

Technicly the wording of this law makes all the other locking devices you can open with a screw driver illegal. So I just shafted all the Manitoba CGN'ers using those... mind you, you can argue a screwdriver is a mechanical key for sure...

So I decided that the 44 mag will be my bush gun and i am on the waiting list. It is not the ideal bush gun, but the portability and weight is just too good. I can't wait.

The more you shoot it and play with it, the more you'll tend to appreciate it's actual practicality. Especially with a few mods to the sighting system and the addition of the right single point sling.

The sling makes a big difference. I tried a few, (plus a few of my own 'rigs') and several just didn't fit right. Many are made for much heavier guns, or larger guns. Some were very close and gave decent results, but I would have had to mod them a little further to be 'just right'. I recently acquired a 'voodoo tactical' single point from Gary at Wanstalls - and although I haven't got to shoot with it yet it just fits perfect.

It's got just the right amount of elasticity and can be sized exactly to what I wanted. When you hold the gun out (stretching the elastic) everything just locks up so that you can actually get a really steady sight picture with it, not radically different than a full sized rifle and certainly better than a pistol. We'll see how it does with new sights on it but I think it'll be a 100 yard gun with a moderate amount of practice if you use the sling.

And of course the sling makes it a very easy carry :)

So when are the rifles due in im on the list? Did i miss the first shipment ive forgot to check up on this thread for awhile it seems!?

For now, all I can do is wait. Once I get it, I will definitely be polling you guys for advice on the sights. The single point sling sounds like a great idea. Bullet barn sells hard cast semi wad cutter 240 grain ammo. I will use that, and I'm hoping to convince them to make me 200 rounds of 300 grain flat nose. I really think that this thing is canadas answer to the handgun.
