VZ58: Optics, sights & mounts. update sept

Yea that rail system mark. Took it out to the bush this weekend and the vortex sparc became lose and sliding on the rail after about 30 shots.

I mounted an SVD mount 4x24 POSP to my VZ58. The only side rail I could find locally was a standard CSA rail and I modified it to work.

First I made a jig for my drill press to machine a slot in the rail to accept the SVD style mount. The rail gets screwed down to a strip that can be slid back and forth and the travel is limited by stops. I used a carbide cutting bit to make the slot.

Here is the result after machining.

And with the scope mounted.

So far so everything seems to be working good.

Thanks. I like it a lot. I bought it about a year and a half ago for an NDM 86 air soft rifle but figured it would be more useful on my VZ. I've only used it at an indoor range so far but soon I'd like to see how it does at 2-400 yards.

With all due respect to everyone with those side mounts...I think they look like warts, to put it nicely. I know the options to mount a scope with proper eye relief is very limited to only a handfull of expensive mounts that are slim & secure, so I do understand why people use the side mounts...but they make the CZ's fugly....they look like the equivelant to a "K" car with a 4" hood scoop IMHO....sorry to the guys with them...Im sure they are secure & mount a scope solid. I like the looks of the zahal dusk cover mounts, and although they are expensive, like a M14 mount, but if they are solidb& hold zero, I think I may go that route.

I also may make one at work ( Im a machinist)...only problem is it will take several hours & material to get a nice one finished after I end up scrapping a couple during the trial & error process, but if I can make a solid low profile mount, I could make them to sell if I price them right & make a superior design....which I have already started programming my CNC mill to begin the trial & error process.

Maybe so, but it sits at good eye height. I also did not want to buy another sight. It works well and if sight fails, I can use irons.

, im a machinist too , you dont have to try and crap some piece ,drawn it on a computer with a software like autocad , inventor or other

Just bought a 3x Vortex Spitfire prism scope

Fits on the railed dustcover perfectly

found that the rifle will do smaller than 2" groups at 100 yards with this setup and its favourite ammo

I have been e mailing with CSA in Czech Republic and it appears that the CSA side mount will accept Russian POSP (AK STYLE) side mount scopes, can anyone confirm that they have done so? If so,please post up a picture as well. This would be a great option to many. Thoughts, opinions, pictures? :)

We sold few svd style optics to csa owners who have csa rails. No complaint s so far. They must be fitting on them without any problems

Anyone have an incredible amount of wiggle on their NEA Cowitness Rail?
I heard they lock up solid but I have an 05 CZ858 and the NEA really wiggles... I have a new NEA spring, allen key skrew and pin but still we got wiggles on my 858...

So I've browsed a few threads, but just to clarify- the NEA upper is the only rail system that allows co-witnessing with a low mount/micro red dot sight? I was under the impression that BC Tactical's was able to accomplish this, but haven't found any concrete evidence either way.

Alternatively, although I'm pretty sure it doesn't work, is it possible to modify an AK side mount to fit on a VZ receiver?

NEA rail is only one. It's lower 1/3 cowitness. Meaning you can see the irons through the lower 1/3 of the optic. I use that rail with a bushnell trs-25. Great combination!!
BC tactical handguards do NOT do that. However they are very nice!

That is a lot of wiggle. Mine has none. Did you try tightening the vertical set screws on the top of the handguard some?

I got mine used, didnt have any set screws. Are they a standard size? Mine doesnt wiggle, even without them, so far as i can tell, but might not hurt to have them.
