Maybe you got a lemon, but the "junk" package scope is actually not terrible...and seems to be holding up quite nicely to the .223. No issues so far and the optics remain clear.

I'll be honest, I never even fired a shot with the package scope. It would probably be okay with the .223. Instead, its going to likely become a scope for a .22.

For my purposes, the 6-18 will provide me more use. Even if it is an old 'junk' Banner scope, it held up on a .300 WM, so it should do well on the .223.

Good to see some good tight groups coming out of these rifles.

Anyone have any suggestions on strengthening the stock? It seems to have a fair amount of flex from the factory.

I have tried a few times today to buy one, but it keeps telling me "Error, Please contact store administrator".
Has anyone else got that?

-Edit

It worked. Maybe their site was just overloaded with traffic.

Never did anything to my stock. Doesnt cause a problem for me. Just shoot it and enjoy

Ok with all the good reviews of the Axis I just ordered one in 223. Taxes and delivery to my door the grand total was $301.01. Now I hope it ends up being a good shooter as the others people have posted.

How are the guys finding some of the heavier rounds in this light package? I imagine the 30-06 would feel fairly stout.

In my 30-06 I dont really notice it. When shooting paper its more noticeable then when shooting a deer after you are waiting all day. But all in all now bad thats for sure. The recoil pad is pretty thick. Also my 30-06 weighs in at 7lbs 11oz unloaded. With a bushnell elite 3200 scope

I owned an Axis (edge) in 30'06 and the recoil was fine. I also owned a 111 in 270win and the recoil was fine. They both did okay.

The weight that savage lists for their axis is a lie. They say it's 6.5lbs...for the Axis XP package. They also say that the rifle on its own is 6.5lbs. How the hell does that make any sense.

I weighed just the rifle and it's a hair over 5.4lbs. Still, the recoil in 30'06 was not troublesome whatsoever. It's a good straight stock design.

I know you asked about 'heavier rounds' but I believe that 30'06 is actually the 'heavies round' the Axis is chambered in.

Have a .243 scoped combo

After dialing it in with the scope adjustments: 8 shots - then
shot 3 within 5/8" in the centre black and 1 flier about 2 inches to the right and a little up @ 100yds

only shot those 12 that day as it was my last day hunting so after setting it for 100 went north. No deer:( but later went back and set it for 0 at 200

Happy with it for sure

It's clearly a cut above the Axis in every way. What's the problem here?

Pardon my ignorance on this subject; could you explain further? Is it the quality of materials used in the action and stock, or a slightly different action design, or what?
I'm interested in one in .308. Thanks.

I have one in 223 and I like it. Its cheap so I could careless if I beat it around. Here's an 8 shot group from mine without letting the barrel cool at 100 yards off my backpack. Not bad for a $300 rifle.
