Who is Using a 28 Gauge, This 2025-26 Hunting Season

Used my English straight stock Ruger O/U 28ga this year for Partridge, but the numbers were drastically down this year in Thunder Bay eastern district. It was much better apparently West toward Fort Frances.
Ribs been loose for two years, so last year didn't use it, but used it this year, worse can happen is the rib shoots loose? It has to come off to be fixed anyways😮.
Thinking of ordering a Merkle SXS, we'll see 🤔

In the past I had a Ruger Red Label 28 gauge O/U.

Zywina,I remember having conversations with you in the past ,under my old 28 gauge name account, about 28 gauge guns.Merkel 28 guns ,to the best of my knowledge are good, but not cheap.:)

No there not cheap the Merkle, but can't seem to find a nice SXS with the receiver finish I want(no stainless receivers) and I don't need choke tubes, just nice fixed tight choked gun for pot shooting birds in tight old forest trails!
I have a Merkle cape gun and I know the quality you get from Merkle, not fancy, but built high tolerances, a working man's gun, not showroom gun😉.
Seems no one will let go of there higher quality AYA here in Canada, would consider something like that?
28 gauge 2 do you have any recommendation on a traditional quality SXS in today's market?

Not really into sxs or o/u guns.I have 2 SXS and 2 O/U 28 gauge guns at the present time. One sxs is an AYA Model 3A ,the other is a Winchester Model 23,both 28 gauge. If you could find a Winchester Model 23 it might be what you are looking for.The Model 23 follows the American classic look, of beaver tail forend and curved stock, rather than the European look of straight stock and splinter forend. There was a straight stock version of the Model 23 made as well.Just a thought.:)

There was a fellow who had some 28 gauge Model 23 guns for sale. How ever, all the conversations are under my old account, which I cannot get at and I do not remember the name.:(

Sorry I could not be of more help.

Nice 28 gauge.I have one much like it, except mine is 28 inch ,M/F.Hope I did not rust yours up too much ,drooling all over it.:)Be sure to let us know when you bag something with it.

What do you plan on using it for?

Hi
Love the 28 for grouse
I use a Browning Medallion BPS
The BPS probably alot heavier than most of the nice 28 's i see here
In the past, I had a Browning 28 gauge BPS.Nice gun,but I found it a bit long in the stock for me.That's just me however.

Glad to hear that you enjoy your 28 gauge BPS.Have you had it long?
