Why buy a FX 9?

If the business folds, the sales records is then transferred to RCMP, alternatively if the cops want the sales records, they can get it too. So if you are the first to buy the NR from a business, you better have it in your possession, won't be so easy to sell it to someone at the gas station like I have done many times.

This is my first NR purchased from a retailer since the rules changed on May 18. It is in my possession, if I want to sell it, I have to request a reference # from the RCMP.

This is what the message is.

First lets understand I know virtually nothing about the AR platform. Had no real use for one personally, so I never bought an AR. This means I had to look in the FX9 manual to confirm which pin to push out to open up the upper from the lower. The gun is bone dry so tomorrow it will get lubed. I discovered through trial and error how to return the upper to it's proper place on the lower, played with the bolt carrier puller thingy, noted the safety positions and dry fired the trigger. Hey, it wasn't as bad as some implied and will be completely useable and even better after following Riflechair's suggested 10cent trigger job. I am Kean to get to the range tomorrow PM and drop some rounds down range. The gun will initially wear a Vortex red dot off my Kidon Kit.

I am no rifleman for certain so I doubt the gun will change much from the guns factory configuration. I'll get some quarters from the Bank tomorrow as that seems to be a cure for any possible reliability issues I may run into early on. The gun will get a couple of hundred rounds down range before they get put into play.

My expectations for the myself in PCC are not high. I would be over the moon if I manage Sharpshooter in IDPA with the gun. Tricking out the trigger, installing new springs, trigger group and buffer tube will do nothing to get me there faster. Now if you have a newer set of reflex's, a spare vertebra or two and a set of much younger eyes I am all ears...the saga begins. Progress, as it appears will be noted here.

Enjoy! Its a fun firearm. I managed to achieve SS with mine, but that was before the latest classifier changes.

Assuming this law survives the ink drying process or the next election I simply cannot imagine any police force in Canada searching down through the records to find out who first bought the unregistered firearm then laying charges because someone sold the gun, without reporting the sale, 10 years after the fact. My life experiences says that happens only in the minds of wine sipping Elitists and Liberal Arts students. It is kind of like hearing from politicians that X% of murders are completed by those using "illegal" guns when the incidence of firearm recovery involving gang shootings is next to zero, somewhat like the percentage of convictions in gang related murders.

Hey man good to hear from you. Well we will see. Still looking to get out your way. Might be another year or so. You promised a cod fishing experience.

Life is good.

Yeah mine came bone dry as well.

They recommended running 115gr in it on the supposed break-in period (though when I contacted FO they told me there is not specific break in, but running 115gr at first is recommended). I had to buy 115gr just to do this, since I normally shoot 124 and 147gr.

Would be curious to hear your feedback as to whether you experience what I have insofar as 1) last round bolt hold open not always working - and seems to be mag specific but even then it's consistent and 2) my bolt release latch seems to have a mind of its own and goes off whenever it wants - even if the gun is stationary and nothing is being touched.

theGazelle ok. the gun will not see any 115 gr bullets but will get 125 FMJ. 125 and 147 gr. plated and lead cast bullets. I sure it will be fine. AFAIK the gun will never know what type of bullet is going down the tube. None of my other PCC'a have moaned much. :>)

I too have heard bolt lock back tends to be mag specific. I have a number of mag variations used in my Ruger PCC so I will try them all. Did you do the quarter in the tube thing?

Hi Bob. No, I haven't done the quarters thing. May try it before heading to the range tomorrow.

What's with all this "quarters in the tube"? Is then to make the buffer spring firmer? I am also interested in hearing about your experience with the different mags. For me, the only mags that will reliably hold the bolt back every time are the pinned magpul mags.
Also, Bob, Nickk has just done another run of charging handles, if you are interested you should grab one now. I know they are pricy but they are absolutely outstanding, well made and a major improvment over the stock CH. Congrats on your FX9, welcome to the club!

200 rounds yesterday with no hiccups at all. Trigger was not all that bad. I have shot worse and it will get better I am certain. The Glock 17 mags I have locked back after the last round occasionally. The Korean 10/17 mags all locked back the gun with no issues. The Glock mags load pretty easily. I may try putting a filler at the base of the mags to see if it might add some additional tension to the springs. Thoughts?

The gun seemed to prefer 125 BDX FMJ RN bullets over the 147 gr CanPro plated. More testing required. BDX are my favourite FMJ pills. I did not run any lead through the gun but will over the next few weeks. I intend to work on the trigger using Riflechair's method. Like I said the trigger is certainly useable. I have no intention of spending money on a new one.

I mounted a Vortex Strikefire on the gun. Works great.

I was hitting clay pigeons at 50 yards with ease yesterday. The gun may not be a CZ Scorpian for accuracy but it certainly takes care of my skill level. The Scorpian I have heard is quite accurate.

The gun is definitely a keeper. F Trudeau....please

Spent part of today loading and another checking my Glock Mags in my FX9. The Glock 17 and Glock Compact (nio idea what the model number is) mags all failed the llock back test. The springs appear to be quite weak. The springs are significantly lighter than my M&P mags.

So with that in mind I cut out three pieces of Amazon cardboard box material, fit them for each of the three mags and inserted them below the springs but above the metal plate that sits just below the base pad. After fitting the cardboard in place I tested all three and each mag now holds the bolt back when you rack the bolt back with the mag empty. It seems to work. No telling for how long but will test it tomorrow. This "fix" if indeed it works is cheaper than replacing the springs. Will report back after 500 rds of use.

Now next up is an Optic. The Romeo5 is on sale for the same price as the Vortex Crossfire2. I have a Crossfier2 and am happy with it. How do you feel about the Romeo5.

RRH-01 and your Mate. It is pretty tough to play PCC in either IPSC or IDPA without one. No con there just the facts. Right now reloading my cast 9MM bullets is cheaper than buying decent .22lr ammo. In any event the biggest Con in Canada is the Trudeau/Blaire Con supported by the little girl doll Freeland and her trip down the condescending trail of BS she spews.

Bob, is your Glock 17 mag one with the orange follower? If so, it's a G5...how did you get the base and floorplate out? I tried many times sticking a punch into that hole and pulling the plate and I can't seem to get it open.

By the way, would love your thoughts (or anyone's thoughts) on what could possibly be wrong with my bolt latch/release on my FX9. It goes off by itself without any rhyme or reason - I don't touch it and it doesn't seem mag specific. Even have a video of me at the bench loading mags and the FX9 is just sitting there with Caldwell bags supporting and the bolt release just goes off by itself. It was a slight annoyance at first but due to there being no consistent cause, it is becoming more than a mild irritant now. Sometimes the wind blows and it goes off. But others I can move the rifle around, hit the bottom of the mag, and nothing happens and it stays locked until I release it. If you look at yours and maybe have some hypotheses about what could be the cause, or what I could try to alleviate this, that would be most appreciated.

Oops, missed your part about Romeo5. I can provide some feedback on this, since the only two types of red dots on my guns are Holosun HS515 CM and GM, and Sig Sauer Romeo 5. For the Romeo 5, there are some nice features such as the shake-to-wake. I never have to turn it off. And it has been very reliable at turning off I believe every 2 minutes (as opposed to the 10 minutes of the Holosuns, and much better than the 12 hours of the previous Vortexes which I have sold). I have found despite the cheap price the Sig has held zero pretty well. The dot is clear and the brightness levels are decent. Adjustments are easy with the cap covers that double as slotted adjustment knobs when turned over. The red dot comes with a plastic tightening tool which is helpful. For me, the only downside is the rubber lens covers - mine seem to have gotten looser over time and now are a bit floppy. Would have preferred flip covers, but at this price point, I will take what I can get. Overall very decent and I have had zero complaints on them.

Mags first l. I used a metal punch. Slip it in the hole in the base plate. Angle it towards the frontof the plate and pry the base plate in the direction to remove the plate. You have to catch the metal plate that sits between the spring and base plate. Stick your tongue in your right cheek. It helps. Swear a couple of times as well. The plate will begin to move.

I am no gunsmith and don't play one on tv. Does this happen when you have a mag in the gun? Removed but locked back by the mag follower or set by pushing the mag release to lock the bolt back? If by the mag it might just be case of the follower not pushing the mag catch enough to completely engage the bolt. If it is holding the bolt by a thread the bolt could just be sliding off. Like I said I am no gunsmith, thoughts?

Yeah, it's gone off in between mag changes - so no mag in the carbine. As for how it is locked, sometimes is it locked on last round bolt hold open, sometimes it is locked when I manually engage it. No rhyme or reason. The weird thing is it goes off when the gun is literally not being touched.

The bolt is under spring pressure. If it is barely engaged it could just be a matter of tension creep. I suspect that is the issue but I am no 'smith. You should get a 'smith look at it or refer it to Freedom Ordnance. They may be able to help as well. I could phone them on your behalf if you want.

Corrected some spelling in my post you quoted. Sorry typing on a phone is not my forte. No much better on a laptop but the screen is bigger. :>).

Just bought the Sig Romeo5 after your post.

You won't be disappointed. I have a number of Romeo 5s. Only reason I also have those Holosun 515s is because the GM has see through glass lenscovers (so I never have to flip them) and the CM has solar backup (which I never use, and unfortunately the lens covers have to be flipped) - both the 515s have shake awake, though the interval is 10 minutes.

I previously owned several Vortex red dots and I couldn't get past the mushy buttons...and the long power interval (12 hours) before shutoff. And no shake awake is a deal breaker (for me at least)
