You buying the new SKS-15?

Why make a newly manufactured SKS when you can get one for $190-200 retail price???

If you like that setup, buy it. If not, so be it. The price tag doesn't ring true for me. If the price point was lower, I would consider it. That takedown is ridiculous as well... have issues at the range, you are pretty well screwed unless you brought your toolbox with you.

I can't see this selling well, but that's just me. It's hard to 'modernize' an old firearm and make it financially feasible when the bare bones $200 rifle will work for most.

When someone buys one and throws it on the EE for half price, I may think about it  - for $850 + taxes, no way.

Like I stated elsewhere, I personally prefer stock SKS. Stock SKS is one of the very few great value guns left, not many years from now people will long for the good old days when someone could buy an SKS for under $300. But I see a market for this SKS 15 concept nonetheless.

The price point would've been too high when the cz/vz guns were sub-$900, but those days are gone.

Similarly I would like to bit*ch bitterly daily and hold out to fill my tank until gas go back down to 40 cents, but I might be riding my bicycle for a long time.

People who refer to the SKS as pigs, is it because of the non-moa accuracy?
Or that at one point in time they were selling for under $100?
Or that there are many abused and badly maintained samples out there?

From the surface, its a milled receiver semi-auto rifle. Saw service in the real world. Reasonably reliable and quite robust. 3 MOA or so. Which is almost better spec than some new plastic black guns that cost 5, 12 times more, su16, x95 (sorry to some, no hate intended).

It's because the SKS is the most un apreciated, over abbused, spat on semi auto gun in Canada just becuase they are currently plentiful and carry a small price tag. wait 30years when their harder to find, and carry a $1000 price tag and people won't be calling them junk, or a pig anymore.

Where exactly?

Canadian Tire, almost any sponsor you can get an SKS for that so why would someone want to newly make an SKS receiver (answering another's question). I sold my last sks on the EE for $170.

Lots of em on the EE if anyone wants one. Lots of black friday sales going on too.

No $850 SKS for me. My VZ58 was $650 a few years back, I won't pay $1000+ for one either. SKS pricing hasn't moved much over the last few years as a lot of the ugly ones are abundant. I'm sure the sks-15 has the famous BBQ painted bluing too.

They're not junk they're one of the toughest rifles you can have. If Vz's were $200 each they would be slagging those as well. It's not a sniper rifle but plenty accurate enough for realistic sized targets within it's range of purpose. I also notice no one dissing the Vz's accuracy in the same caliber. Being an owner of both I find they perform identically. Must be the numbers on the price tag.

Haters gonna hate. I think it looks kinda cool but funds are tight and I want so many other things and need so many other things. If I had more available funds maybe

Actually, Cabelas is selling laminates for $189 this weekend, very tempted.

But I am keeping an eye out for sub $700 cz/vz, I will so snatch it up in a heard beat.

Your analogy means nothing as SKS's are still dirt cheap, just like the action that's in the SKS-15 - can have the rifle for $189 at Cabelas (retail price). Probably won't see sub $700 VZ58 rifles as you are not tripping over them at every big box store and LGS that sells guns. Whether that will be the case in the future, one can't say. But today, the SKS is dirt cheap and the VZ58 rifle is not.

You have a thread right below this about guys buying them by the crate...

The VZ58 rifle is probably dirt cheap and plentiful like the SKS in the Czech Republic where you can buy them by the crate, but we are not there.

Good luck, Got 1,000$ for mine months ago on EE, and it was gone within a week. Had about 20+ PM's....

Think your best best was the wolverine sale to get one cheap, If you missed that Im not sure what to tell you.

I think a big problem with the price is that demand increased allot driving them higher, its not a good time to buy a VZ right now. On the other hand T97 and UTAS prices have crashed. Bought both of thos with my VZ58 funds. I loved my VZ but I don't miss it anymore, I got all the use out of it I was getting.

Personally not my cup of tea, but someone will like it.

The biggest issue I see other than the complicated take down is the position of the magazine release. They should have had enough space to move the magazine release back beside the trigger guard, or at the very least have a paddle release like a G36 that would release the AR mag.

I cant wait for SKS's to go up and price. Maybee then the mall ninja crowd can finally move on to hack up a different platform.

Personally I've found SKS's to be reasonably precise given what they are. I have found my non-chrome lined guns to be slightly more accurate than the chrome lined ones, getting about 3 MOA with the iron sights as long as I do my part (I've been able to do better, about 2MOA on average with a Magwedge scoped SKS with a decent trigger and good fit with the stock). The biggest issue I see is cheap surplus ammo and people who don't know how to use iron sights properly. Triggers and stock fit can also be an issue, but are easy enough to remedy at home with a few basic materials and a few hours spare time.
