X95, not all that great.

Ok just put another hundred rounds through the x95.....I am thinking there is much to be said about breaking in a rifle. This rifle has incredibly settled down, that and my comfort level with rifle has increased.
Just hit plate at 174 meters 9 out of 10 times, this rifles accuracy is improving.
Lapping a barrel......Had a discussion three weeks ago with the president of the wildlife federation a long time tavor user. Suggested that I just shoot the x95 to lap the barrel, well what ever is going on I think regardless of what people think there is something to this.
Keep in mind this is with crappy 62 gr barnaul not off a rest or sand bags, just standing resting trigger guard off deck railing.
So by no means am I super sniper dude, just a user not a collector if you do get one put a few hundred rounds through it of some steel cased ammo to smooth out feed ramps and put rounds through barrel. This will accomplish a few things; first and foremost it will get you used to it.
Second is to smooth it out, for what ever reason combination of gaining familiarity and everything breaking in accuracy is improving.......

There wont be any lapping going on with a chrome lined bore. But all the shooting might help smooth out the trigger a bit which can improve accuracy. My Tavors trigger definitely got noticeably smoother after a thousand rounds.

As you mention, You're also getting more familiar and comfortable shooting the bullpup design. It's much different than an AR-15 or regular hunting rifle. It can definitely take hundreds of rounds before you get used to it.

Glad your getting better accuracy. Keep experimenting with different types of ammo and I'm sure you'll get it shooting 2-3 MOA consistently.

The I am no expert but I have a sneaking suspition that the tips of the bullets getting gouged up had some thing to do with the oh my gawd you got to be kidding me groups I was getting originally. Because now they wonder around but it's in a pattern if the barrel is cool. The bullpup magnifies shooting issues I have noticed, for example standing unsupported at distance is challenging what I could do with heavier longer xcr I can not yet with x95......But it will come. Shot it today alongside my stock ar Interesting to feel the difference starting to like the weight and balance.

We are allowed to do this?.... do tell more..

Saskatchewan dude. Sure, we may not have the prettiest women and a skyline that would make Bob Ross quit halfway through painting it, but I can buy an AR-15 at home hardware and pick up some shells at the gas station. I've gone shooting at our 24 hour range with the RCMP, where my dues are $50 a year. There's always a Tavor, a T97, or an xcr at the coyote derbys. Saskatchewan likes guns. The black rifles are slowly gaining popularity.

The triggers on these are really sloppy. But to save money, if you look closely there are lots of gently used Tavors on EE these days. They are now at the $1700 range and it may be negotiated down a bit if you are lucky

Have you tried a stock TAR-21 trigger? The x95 is way better! Not quite Mil-spec AR but way better than a Tavor.
But an upgraded Geisselle trigger pack and Lightening Bow? Or TAv-D? Different story altogether!

The X95 "feels" better because it has a straighter angled pistol grip, that gives the finger more leverage so it feels "better". They are really the same trigger.

I know the trigger is the same as the same Geisselle parts will drop in. But I didn't realize that the different angle on the pistol grip made it feel different. Things you learn everyday!

Ok 120ish, now that's why the Geisselle drops in! Ah!!

Had my Gen 2.5 out last night. The only trigger mod mine has is the Lightning Bow. I like the feel much better than stock. It's still heavy, but gone is the grit and creep of the stock TAR trigger and it breaks clean. Best $100 you can spend on the TAV trigger.

With cheap MFS 55 grain zinc plated steel case, i can keep my 8" gong swinging at 100 yards as long i do my part (4x optic)

i dont get why a rifle that costs so much can't be more accurate than it is...i get that they dont need it to be better than 3 moa...but that can be done with an sks for $200...if you're paying that much for a gun you'd expect some semblance of accuracy, as can be found in the acr, xcr, or MV. That being said this is why i dont own one, and if you do more power to you if you enjoy it thats all that matters.

To be fair modern day manufacturing of an SKS comes to 8-900, and its still just a lousy SKS. The Tavors are every bit as equal to the XCR light barrels, so I dont see what the issue is. If one desires accuracy out of a Tavor, pony up and rebarrel it since it is not offered in a heavier barrel weight.f:P:

I wonder why nobody is making slightly heavier aftermarket barrels for the Tavor and X95. Surely they would be able to sell them. I'd love to try one on my Tavor.
Because it's already a $2500+ rifle. You're probably looking at another $1000 for marginal gains. The best investment to improve accuracy is to upgrade the trigger, in my experience.

Blaxsun is half right. The other best investment for accuracy is training/practice. If you're shooting a Tavor off a bench for groups, you're doing it wrong. Period. Therefore, you must be shooting it from offhand/braced/sitting/kneeling/prone, and if you're doing that, then you need to train and practice. Proper technique, trigger and breath control and practice will make far more of a difference than a barrel that gives you 1 or 2 MOA instead of 3 or 4.

A Tavor is not a gopher or bench gun. It took me quite a while (and three different Tavors) to realize that myself, and also to understand that just because a rifle is non-restricted and expensive, that doesn't automatically make it into something it never was, and never will be.
