Just because it has a selector switch doesn't mean in coverted auto. The vzs have em too. Wait a minute. Clobb is the selector like a safe-semi-auto type? Does it go into the f/a position, does it contain any fa parts?

Just checked my cz858, it will not go into the f/a position. Do you think this hAs something to do with it?

Excellent job explaining things as always Savage

So the odds that the new shipment for Can am are most likely converted full autos?

Ps what does FRT stand for..? thanks

I have no idea And sure as #### wont even speculate on that I am pulling for Can Am on this .
I am wondering if the CZ 58/858 fiasco that Marstar is facing is a result of previous incompetence on the part of the RCMP if it is then it is serious problem that needs to rectified and those responsible are Fired .
FRT= Firearms Reference Table # is catalogue that contains of course firearms used for identification by the RCMP it has been said it is the most comprehensive library of small arms in the World.

12(5) is a list of specific guns which does not include the T97, none of which were ever full-auto. If this gun is being prohibited because it was once select-fire, that makes no sense.

12(3) is for guns that were select-fire then permanently modified to semi or single shot.

Something is very wrong with what you've been told, Clobb.

This whole thing is so ####ed up it is beyond belief no wonder this system is such a failure .They cant put you into an existing class they have to make a new class 12.8 maybe

What I'd like to know is what will happen to certain transfers that are pending. If I bought a restricted T97 last week, both parties called the CFC and are just waiting on the CFO will the transfer still go thru since it was started before any FRT #'s were "updated"

What I think the reclassification equates to is "safe queen".
Call it 12-3 or 12-4 or 12-5 it is all moot. The governments intention is that those T-97's (restricted ones) are now safe queens, you can have one but you can't shoot it.

"IF" indeed the T-97's from Lever are converted from full auto, then I would assume that there is a good chance that CanAm's T-97's were produced from the same receivers. This would explain their not having been released from customs.

But this is all conjecture as I don't know $hit from shinola!

It should be noted that CanAms post of the list of 12-5 firearms is dated January 1, 1995 (which was fourteen years ago). I am certain the T-97 will probably be on the 2009 version of the list.

But again, I am only commenting on what has already been posted by others.

Got off the phone with the CFC a few minutes ago. As of this afternoon my Type 97 shorty - FRT # 129257 is now a 12.5 prohibited firearm.

They are sending me a new registration certificate tomorrow and I would guess a new PAL.

I just got off the phone with another CGN member in the "know" regarding this and SAVAGE's version is correct. This seems to be a cluster F@CK from the start.

Canada Ammo is the one caught in the middle.

Anybody want to by a commemorative Type 97 Picatinny paper weight???

I'm past getting mad about this - I'm going to call the CFC tech tomorrow and have a chat with my MP.

I'm pulling for Canada Ammo - Chris is a good guy who doesn't deserve this.

I hope you get 12.5 but I highly doubt it. You may be allowed to keep your new paper weight but not be allowed to buy any more CA's.

There is no "2009 version" of that list. 12(5) is carved in legal stone.

Edit: and I thought you were leaving CGN for good?

Guys - I can only go by what I was told.

I was told 12.5.

Like I posted earlier - I was given conflicting information this morning when the lady said my model wasn't prohib.

I'm going to call the CFC TECH first thing tomorrow for more info.

EDIT: SO here's my crash course in Prohib designation. I can now understand the confusion. 12.5 would have to be written in stone. I'm confused now as well...

Taken from the CFC website:

A Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) only allows you to acquire prohibited firearms in the same categories as the ones currently registered to you, and only if the firearms you wish to acquire were registered in Canada on December 1, 1998.

As a general rule, your PAL will indicate what prohibited firearms you are licensed to acquire by showing the section of the Firearms Act that grandfathers you, as follows:

1. 12(2) means full automatics.
2. 12(3) means converted automatics.
3. 12(4) means firearms prohibited by former prohibition order No. 12. You can find out which firearms are in this category on the fact sheet listing restricted and prohibited firearms.
4. 12(5) means firearms prohibited by former prohibition order No 13. These, too, are listed in the fact sheet listing restricted and prohibited firearms.
5. 12(6) means handguns with a barrel length of 105 mm or less or that discharge .25 or .32 calibre ammunition. On licences issued on or after April 10, 2005, these firearms will be referred to as 12(6.1) firearms.

Your eligibility to acquire a particular prohibited firearm will be confirmed during the transfer process.

Grandfathered status allows you to possess and acquire prohibited firearms that are already registered in Canada, but not to bring a prohibited firearm into Canada as a new import.

Alright. Sorry but I am quite confused.

Is it being implied that all semi-automatic weapons are going to be banned in the country?

Is the CanAm T97 going to be classified as prohibited? Therefore, unable to be purchased by a person with an ordinary non-restricted PAL.

I don't think that we are looking at an blanket banning of semi autos but we might be re examining any semi autos that have come onto the market since the 12.5 prohib list was made.
