Extended Rail for MR1??¿

Good work on that. I too am very interested. I guess he didn't like my idea of using the R1 rail. If it all works out, and he can keep it under $200, I would pick one up.

I was wondering if any of you know of any way of extending the top picatinny rail on the Benelli MR1. It will fit my EOtech perfectly, but I want another few inches to put a magnifier on.

Any idea?
Call Dlask & send them your rail then tell them that you want it x amount long. A little while latter it arrives back at your door and bob's your uncle.

I've seen that rail before but it's for the R1 not the MR1 so I'm not 100% sure it's compatible. I've been looking for a way to extend the top picatinny rail as well. I visited ATRS in Calgary today to see if they could custom build a top rail for my MR1. They are going to look into it and get back to me in the next couple of days. I talked with the owner who thinks he could get it done for $150-200. What we discussed was a top rail about 8 inches long with holes drilled and tapped for all 6 screws (4 for current rail and 2 for the removed rear sight).

If interested people give ATRS a call to inquire about a top picatinny rail maybe the price will come down. I told the owner that it's something he should offer as a regular item because there would be a lot of MR1 owners interested in it but I got the impression that he didn't feel the market was there.

We are making rails NOW, I ran the plan past the guys and to build 1 or 2 would run $200.00 per rail, to make more will drop the cost down, by how much will depend on volume.

This is where I ended up. Found the Trijicon accupoint 1-4 on the EE and it came with the LaRue quick release mount. Just clears the rear sight with correct eye relief for me. Also bought the aftermarket supernova collapsible stock. Took a little dremel work to get the trigger guard to fit but otherwise it's compatible and a better comb height with the scope.
Was out shooting groundhogs with the kids last weekend and excellent "minute of groundhog" accuracy out to 200 yds on the shooting sticks with AE 50gr hps. Worked very well for them with adjustable stock and low recoil.

If word got out on this it would sell like crazy. Hopefully it does, not only to save money, but to quench some of the #####ing out there. If this goes over, maybe we can have other items machined to improve the rifle.

PM'd by Rick at ATRS. Rifle's going into the shop this week for rail measurements and fitting. Now's the time to jump on this guys. Anyone else in?

I am in, but only if I have a measurement to cut the rail short enough to fit the open sight.

I personally want the rail to fit in between the 2 factory sights, I do not want to remove the original rear sight.

If they can make one for me like that, it love it. No point in getting the rear one removed since the front sight is there.

also it be awesome if ATR made a rail to mount to the buttom of the front forearm, and provide full lenght for grips. I do not like the benelli U clamp rail. seems fragile.

He's already seen my rifle and taken a couple of rough measurements. He has my phone number and can call me if he needs to make any additional measurements.

The rail I discussed with Rick will replace the rear sight. If I recall correctly it will be about 8" long. I purchased a rear sight (Fabarm) from The Shooting Edge ($90) in Calgary that can be attached to the picatinny rail when I want to use open sights.

Here is a link to a Fabarm shotgun with the sight attached to a picatinny rail. I wish Benelli gave us this option right out of the gate.

Won't the rail end up raising the sight too high to be compatable with the front sight? I thought the whole idea here was to enable lowering the scope and moving it rearward for proper cheek weld. Leaving the sight in place will negate the whole purpose, will it not? Just wondering.

That was the best picture i could find for the sight I purchased. The one I have has quick detach screws which will let me change it with my scope easily. It is a little higher (2-3 mm) than the attached rear sight provided and I was able to sight it in at 25 yards but was high at 50 yards (and couldn't be lowered any further) when attached to the current rail.

When I have a full rail in place and I am able to attach the sight at the back where it should be I am confident that I will be able to sight the rifle in at 50 yards. I don't plan on having the sights and scope on my rifle at the same time but I am planning on have the ability to swap between open sights and scope easily.

I left the rifle with Rick on Monday and out of town Tuesday. He told me to pick the gun up up on Tuesday but I said I'd leave it until the rail was done and mounted...............nothing further. I hope this goes quick though. I'm kind of interested to see how it shoots after the rail change, different scope rings are used and mounting position altered. Hopefully this realizes a better cheek weld and faster sighting.

The only crappy thing will be having to sight it in again. It's not a big deal, but it can't be done properly around town (I want it sighted in at 100m), requiring another day trip.

The rail mounting screws Benelli uses are some weird metric 1s, so you will need to retain the factory screws to mount our rail to the gun.
Hit r miss If I could bother you to drop off your screws we can get the counterbore size and depth figured and could finish the proto type.
For those who want to retail the rear site it is simply a matter of shortening the rail.

I sight in at 50 yards (maybe metres? whatever The Shooting Edge range is) to give a flat trajectory out to about 200 yards and am about 1.5" high at 100. I look forward to sighting in the gun as it gives me another excuse for a trip to the range.

I only have 5 of those original 6 screws left. I broke SIX T15 wrenches and ruined the screw trying to get the sight off the first time. I imagine that the 5 remaining screws and some red loctite should do the trick.

Just emailed you Rick. I'll drop off the screws late Thursday afternoon.:dancingbanana:
