1022 Tommy Gun Kit

The barrel-length minimum which makes a long gun "restricted" (470mm = approx. 18.5") applies only to firearms which are both semi-automatic and centerfire.

Otherwise, the restriction is simply a minimum OAL of 660mm (approx 26") .....

So, just as Farmer Harv says ...... Not.

Are any of you guys using aftermarket oversize or extended charging handles?

And if so which ones work to clear the Thompson "receiver"?

I'm looking at one of these,

but John was mentioning it might not clear the Thompson receiver.

I have one of those pictured but haven't installed it yet. On first observation with rough measurements it appears it won't be a drop-in with the Thompson Kit...however...a lathe (or crude file job) could take down the inside top and bottom edges so that it likely would work with the Thompson Kit. Looks like about 2mm in width and heighth on the top end, and 3mm on the bottom end, but that's just ballpark. The concerning part about doing that though is with the inside of the handle being hollow you'll be creating a small opening where the cylindrical part of the handle joins with the flatbar, which will reduce strength at that point. I kinda don't think that will be a structural problem though given how much metal will still be attached. When I get around to finding a lathe I'll be doing it.

You could epoxy on a .45acp case to the stock bolt handle.... I've put a .50AE on one of my other rifles.
