2015 - My Black Rifle shoots sub-MOA groups all day long challenge! Revised Rules!

Does it count as all 5 sub-moa though or only 4? I'm confused by the 1.047"@100 yard note at the bottom of the target. I always thought moa was 1.000" @ 100 yards, but maybe I'm learning something new.

Technically speaking, by definition 1MOA is actually 1.047" which shooters tend to round up as 1" aka shooter's MOA. So yes, looking at your scores, you did indeed shoot 5 groups under MOA.

A circle with a 100 yard radius (distance from the center to the edge) would have a circumference of approximately 628.32 yards or 22,619 inches (100 x 2 x pi = 628.32 {pi is about 3.1416}). Dividing the circumference in inches by the number of minutes in a full circle gives a value of about 1.047 inches (22619 / 21600 = 1.047). Thus, changing a sight's elevation setting by 1 minute of angle changes the bullet's impact point by 1.047 inches at 100 yards. And the bullet's impact point would change by 2.094 inches at 200 yards (1.047 x 2) and change by 3.141 inches at 300 yards (1.047 x 3).

Congrats! I'll move your name up the rankings. Looks like you won yourself a golf shirt as well. PM me your shipping address and I'll ship you your shirt. :)

I should have known that.. That's good to know though as I had thought MOA wasn't dependent on imperial or metric measurements as it was an angular measurement.. but had thought 1cm at 100m would be the same MOA.. and unless I did the math incorrectly - that's not the case.

Gave it a go today.
Conditions were good when I was packing up to head to the range, but degraded into gusty wind and intermittent downpours once I was at the range.
I'm emberassed to post this, but fair is fair. I'll have another go at it when we see some nicer weather and perhaps steal the sightron 6-24 from my varmint rifle to replace the meopta 1-4.

Bagged from the prone position with lapua 155 scenar handloads. Conditions were garbage as mentioned.

Dpms g2 recon 308, meopta 1-4.

No need to be embarrassed, we all have good days and bad. Good on ya going out and shooting it though and posting it.

I guess technically then,CLG's entry back on page 8 qualifies for the "Honorable Mention" list with 4 outta 5 groups being <1.047",yes?
.....shot with an XCR no less!!! :O

Funny you would be embarrassed of groups most would be elated to shoot, like they say it's all perspective I guess.

Well done NTM, regardless of the very challenging conditions that's some fine shooting; I look forward to seeing your performance on a better day with that sweet G2.

Cheers D

Congrats to CLG on making the Honourable Mention list! Thanks to Grinrgrn for pointing it out.

0.033" off from making the bottom of the list, guess I need an excuse to have another go at it. Top right was the result of stopping in the middle of a grouping for an issue. Groupings were done in the order 3, 2, centre, 1 and 4. First three were completed with one mag change, maybe 30-45 seconds between groups and the last two were done about a minute later.

Rifle used and ammo used, XCR's aren't useless!

Well that was humbling....and revealing.
Learnt that I need more trigger time, and that this rifle is capable of shooting better than me.
No excuses,I accept responsibility for operator error.....not too shabby groups if you disregard the one Mulligan from each group and only count the best 4 shots, lol, that would make it a respectable 4 outta 5 groups <MOA......meh.

XCR-L 5.56
18.6" Lt Bbl 1/9
3-9x40 Trijicon Accupoint
Caldwell Tack Driver(no rear bag)
Fed XM193 55gr FMJ

1.555,1.880,2.200,1.340,1.406

.........or "best 4 shot" groups disregarding the worst shot of each group would have been .860,1.001,.730,.925,1.224

I'll DEFINATELY be trying this again, room for improvement on my part.....maybe add a rear bag to the setup next attempt?

I wouldn't discount your effort so quickly Grinrgrn, you may come to realize that you have actually done a very good job of shooting your RA rifle.

What error do you think you're making? because it appears you are getting decent groups from ammo. that isn't exactly match grade.

Better ammo. may offer an opportunity to reduce your group sizes, although the XM193 rounds seems to do well in your particular rifle.

Interested to see how much more you can tighten up your groups. Regardless, keep up the effort as you are bringing hope to many a XCR owner.

Cheers D

Here' my DD M4V5 with some load testing groups. Rifle has some potential. The groupings don't show consistency in the POI 'cause I had made adjustments after having just sighted it in with surplus ammo. :p

I was at Silverdale on Sunday last week working loads for the challenge, maybe I run into you next time :)

Nice grouping, it seems grouping #5 only has 4 shots?

Could be 2 bullets in the middle hole... Good shooting... JP.

Yup, there are two shots overlapping on the 5th group. I kinda rushed that one 'cause they wanted a target change and I was ready to pack it up for the day. I got 25rnds loaded up from 23.3gr to 24.7gr ready to tackle the challenge. :)

Hey Kouma, yeah, might run into you sometime at Silverdale.
