Rangebob - you are missing the forest for the trees. There were just over 500 mrders in Canada last year. About the same as there were in Chicago (532 - 2012) vs Toronto (41 - 2012). The cities are the same size. Gun laws in Chicago are far more stricter than in Toronto so I guess our gun laws are working....or have nothing to do with either murder amount. Since you provide the murder rates per 100K for selective rural States why do you suppose residents in those States feel they need to carry while residents North of the 49th don't?

ps From what I can see the whole gun issue is a dead issue politically now. The Liberals are not about to reinstate the long gun registry as they know it did nothing and the NDP will yap about the issue to try ti hold on to their seats in Quebec and urban English areas. Even our local NDP MP will admit to this.

Comparing Chicago, the scummed ghetto plaged city that it is with Toronto (who is on its way to becoming just that if criminal laws aren't reinforced and strictly applied across the board) is a failed comparison IMO.

Regarding my comment about taking a walk in that Montreal neighborhood - do you even know what a hell-whole crime written place it is???!! The only way I'd go for a walk there at night is IF I was allowed to CCW.

I did, although not for gun laws. I am amazed how much better it is here. Better schools, roads, people, jobs, weather and way more personal freedom. All the smug Canadians really live in a fantasy world.

CCW is a nice to have there are many issues that are must haves may we focus on them instead Killing the ATT and the restricted classification is chief among many issues let us stop chasing pipe dreams
 
If irony has it, the only time were ever going to even hear about CCW is when some gangster saves the day by putting down a bad guy bent on a mass murder while he himself illegally carrying.

I do agree with him. Depending on where you go. In general the Americans are dicks and canadians are awesome is a complete lie.

Perhaps purveyed by our media/politicians.

I have a great time in the us. Am planning on buying a second home there. The people are wonderful.
Their constitution is wonderful.

Canada is a potentially great country that has turned way to far to the left for my liking.

Definitely on my "To Do" list - folks in Florida are great, but then they can dispense with being paranoid about your motives, or your intentions to influence them with anything other than reason. This is the key advantage of carrying a personal weapon - you can't be intimidated into doing something, you must be convinced to do something, regardless of size or strength, you are removed from the coercion of implied or attempted violence by any person.

That is a good description. While some people here get pissed if you don't think Canada is the most wonderful country around, the reality is that it could be an absolutely fantastic place to live, but is held back by the socialists and all the lefty nanny staters. There is a lot of potential, but it is being wasted by the left and the sheeple.

+1 well said. Same thing apply to Quebec, great place, great people but is back by the socialists and all the lefty nanny starters.
 
In my time on this earth I have never been in a situation where I required the use of a Concealed hand gun, or any gun for that matter, and god willing that will continue, this country just got over the long gun registry, and hand guns have been controlled for a very long time, the political appetite for this is a non-starter
