M14s 2500rd Review and a DIY Mod-Stock walk through

and she's done. the camera makes it look a lot glossier than it is. finished with a coat of adhesion promoter, coat of EZ liner , cure 24 hours at 20C, coat flat black and 2 matte clear.
will let it gas off and cure up for a week before I put a rifle in it.
I tested the sight plane and she's perfect, no hunching up to use the irons, they come to the eye fast and easy ;)

if a guy wanted to go this "full retard method, chop an ar15 receiver to make an m14 stock adaptor" (or an adaptor for any rifle stock mod) like I did...... ar15 lower forgings are only 50 bucks ..... the buffer tube and grip screw drills and taps aren't overly expensive and easily sourced..... good info to know if yer handy ;)

Looks great and nice explanation / pics ! What about the registration of the doner AR receiver ? . As my stripped receiver has its own registration as a restricted firearm ?
I am assuming that contacting the CFO and explaining what was done and maybe some pics would allow you to tear up the restricted registration slip after contacting them?

What he did is right there.

I've got a friend in the AR receiver machining circles and I get the back half of their rejects that are useable for my purpose.
ya, I would NOT suggest cutting and modding a registered lower hehehe

Squeezed off 100 rounds on the weekend. The stock held up fine, and just love the new feel.

looks good Dirty Deeds , reminds me I need another eotech LOL

now on to making a light tacticalish stock for my ruger scout ........

I cut that part off behind the trigger guard prior to assembly , with an angle grinder and thin zip disc.
saw would work too.
once trimmed , there is an open pocket there and I filled that in with marine tex.
should be able to see if you zoom in on it.

I was wondering where you got your marine tex from, I'm having trouble finding it around here. Are there any similar epoxies that should work as well? Thanks

hmmmm, mine comes by courier direct from western chemical supply , not sure about where to buy it retail..... any quality marine oriented hardware store or any hardware store with a western chemicals account , can order it for you. It comes in white and grey. for this application I use the grey.
another product available thru western chemical and their dealers is made by Eclectic and is call GOOP , marine epoxy (50/50 mix) , a product I have used for well over a decade in firearm stock modifications among other things.

I finally got a day to paint mine. I made up a wooden rack with some 2x4's that I had laying around. I sprayed it on Sunday and left it till today to cure. I painted the stock with Tremclad OD green and the metal with Cerakote OD green. As you can see that both of there versions of OD are much different from one another. No matter as it's not staying that way anyways. I didn't want to use Cerakote on the stock in case it doesn't stick to it good enough. We'll see how well it lasts, if all go's well I camo the entire rifle with Cerakote.

Good info, I will look into some of these options thanks!

nicely put together, very clean. a range report on how the new configuration handles would be interesting. where did you source the cerakote? tough to get a dealer to sell it in Canada.

I ordered the Cerakote direct from them. I live very close to the border so shipping was minimal as I had it shipped to my US address and picked it up from there.
