CBSA depends on where you are.

I've taken gun parts across a fair bit, but the guys knew me because I went over for business purposes.

When I told them 'gun parts' they said: 'doesn't matter, as long as its not a major component', then I paid the GST and off I went.

US DHS was nice too. I gave one of their ladies a card after she had her baby.

You should have seen the $hit storm the time I returned to Canada with a box of (25) 20ga 7 1/2 skeet loads. The young guard acted as if he just nailed Al Capone. I was detained for 2 1/2 hours, threatened with incarceration, frisked and had my car gone over with mirrors and sniffer dogs. No firearms in the car. I also had my shooting club ID and various hunting decoys in the trunk.

I now jerk their chains whenever I get the chance.
LOL :jerkit:

So maybe he should do a FOIP request for all internal communications regarding his shipment. ( I know I can do this with provicial governements so it should be possible to do one federally i would assume)

Good luck...they will ignore it until you start raising seven kinds of hell with the privacy commissioner who will then raise hell with the agency who will then send you half of what you wanted.

Best bet is to raise a formal ministerial complaint with Peter Van Loan (the current fed SolGen). His office will forward the issue to the persons responsible for causing the issue and will give them a limited amount of time to reply and to fix it or justify it.

In my experience the issue with CBSA comes down to the individual officer. Many of them are anti-gun (it is the way they are trained...guns are bad, people shouldn't bring them into Canada, your job is to find them) and do not distinguish between legal weapons owned or imported by law abiding citizens. With that said, I know and shoot with several officers who are pro-gun and will go out of their way to make sure you aren't treated like a criminal just because you have a PAL.

Importing Ammunition Is Permissible

I am surprised at the reaction you got from them. I asked a border guard if I could bring ammo across and he said the limit for ammo was over 1000 rounds. The only problem he warned me about was that I was not allowed to take possession of it in the US as a non resident. Thus, I didn't do it. If you were treated like that I would take the name of those who hassled you and report them to the responsible authorities.

1100+ posts! 67 000+ views! Wow! How many of us are there? We should start a group in here. I guess it's better than wearing a groove in the floor from pacing or chewing of our fingers ;) I've already printed off a full page pic and pinned it by the PC. Cleaning the drool off the floor keeps me busy too.

I've been thumbing through this thread for some time... it'd be a lie to say I've read it all, as I'd prefer to dedicate that time to the "girls with guns" photo thread... that said, I feel confident that the folks over at Canada Ammo have a "modicum" of experience dealing with the importation of firearms from Asia... I'll default to that experience and wait for the package to arrive. It's obvious they're preparing for the large amounts of shipments - heck they're looking to hire someone on a part-time contract for a one month period (hint hint, nudge nudge)...I'd apply, but the daily commute from Ontario to BC would be troublesome...

Good news is the 30 days is almost over. Then we'll see how it goes.

Guys, just to let you all know. The 30 day mark should've already passed. It was officially declared by Can Am that they were in customs on Jan 16th. Check page 72 post 719. It seems like everyone is using the date posted on their website (Jan 26). Anyways, here's to seeing them soon. I don't think I've looked forward to anything like this since i was a kid during Christmas.

If that's the case, customs is hanging on to them past 30 days. Not good. Watch them refuse the shipment, and poor canam will have to appeal it.

You are quite correct, the 30 days has expired. We should have some sort of announcement next week.

I have a $100 scope mount, extra mags, loads of .223 ammo, a T-dot scope an NO RIFLE!

Delay's I can live with... refused shipment will definately be a real bad scene... trying to sell 10 round AR-15 mags would not be easy.

No sense getting bent out of shape, the T-97 meets the requirements for a "non-restricted" firearm, customs just has to be convinced.

Why sell your mags? Aren't there any other non-restricted rifles that take STANAG mags?

The Tavor in non-restricted, what was the experiance with that coming into port? Any other rifles the same? For what I know (which isn't much) the Tavor and t97a are the only nonrestricted Bullpups in Canada? Anyone own a Tavor want to share there experiance on what we are going through? Was it similar or easier? Mabee customs just dosn't like Chinese guns ;)

I broke down and finally ordered one. It should be a fun gun to have and shoot. Sounds like some at the CBSA are trying to make their opinions into Canadian Law. Arguing with the CFC I bet. But they'll get here as they are already here and available elsewhere.

But at least you would be out of that s**t hole! :p

Well at least away from all those Lieberals! :D

PS - welcome to CGN !

The Type 97As have been available in Canada for the last year...so it can't be anything to do with the actual firearm. The Type 97 has the same action, the only differences being a longer barrel with no flash hider and no vertical foregrip. I think it might be somebody looking at them and thinking: "thats friggen scary for a non-restricted".

This same model was also available before except with a slightly shorter barrel, it still has a flashider.

I think the custom guys are just afraid the Chinese army is trying to sneek in...
