Avro Anson 3158 RB-Z seen here arrived in South Africa on 14 January 1941. During the War, this aircraft was allocated to 61 Air School in George before being loaned to 44 Air School in Grahamstown.
In 1946, this aircraft was sent to 35 Squadron where it was converted into a non-flying seaplane water taxying handling trainer for the Sunderland Pilots and given the designation code RB-Z. This aircraft was based at AFS Congella in Durban for the period 1946-1947 before being withdrawn from service.

French submarine Surcouf​

The Washington Naval Treaty had placed strict limits on naval construction by the major naval powers in regard to displacements and artillery calibers of battleships and cruisers. However, no agreements were reached in respect of light ships such as frigates, destroyers or submarines.

So what do you do? You mount two 203mm Cannons on top of a Submarine of course, along with anti aircraft guns and even a float plane.

Sadly she went missing with all hands in 1945 and her resting place is unknown.

The Soviets had a takedown rifle for their space capsules in case they landed in wolf infested Siberia awaiting rescue.
Somebody should have tried shooting it in space.

If you find yourself at the airport in Weatherford, Oklahoma, make sure to go the the Stafford Air & Space Museum honoring US Astronaut Thomas P Stafford. It's very impressive and you can see one of the Soviet Cosmonaut T0Z-82 survival rifles.
