Cool! Thank You!
Anyone ever try and EOTech with the 3X magnifier from the same company??? Is it a good solution?
Finally I get a chance to look trough a single optic handle.
But I did not have seen the 400m, 600m, and 800m point of aim... Either the man size markers. Is it normal???
The 1.5X magnification is deceiving too...
Not sure if I will like the G36 scope Handle...
Is there any mounts to fix above a scope, an aimpoint or an EOTech?
I've read this entire thread 3 times for the purpose whether I can build a G36 clone i.e. modified SL8. As of Nov 2011 I would say it is very hard to get quality parts to do a good job here to Canada.
This bothers me because HK has a brand new plant in Georgia producing all kinds of cool hardware for the civil and military market specifically for the US and Canadian market to meet regulation. So why are G36 priced like they were General Patton's personal firearm?
It seems like it might be easier to go to another platform or buy a G36 for 9000. Since most guys say there builds run them 6000$ plus optics. What's an extra 3000$ for a rifle that may appreciate over time?
Is it possible through importers or domestically to buy a G36 piece by piece...Lower, upper, barrel so until you have the rifle you want. I've notice HK Pro has a lot of parts and they're not that expensive in comparison of the build. Will they ship parts to Canada? Does anyone stock the required parts?
Your input is needed. Any link appreciated. If this doesn't work I will have to move on to Swiss Arms or a new HK.

I would never stop anyone for undertaking the process for the SL8-G36 build(on the contrary, I highly encourage you as there are tons of benefits). And you are doing it exactly the right way, by doing the research first.
However, as one who has completed the Tom Bostic (chop-shop version), I can impart upon you just a few very basic pearls of psuedo-wisdom.
First is patience. It will, and I stress will, take longer than you expect. Most of that time will be taken up in permitting applications. Next will be tons of time searching for parts and researching methods. Actually build time is only a couple days.
Next is cash. HK ain't cheap. Importing ain't cheap. HK accessories ain't cheap. You need to know this going in. At any given time you'll need the cash in hand, ready to pounce, when parts come on line. Then mail them to export mailhouse like the one south of Winterpeg(there are others). The parts can sit there at 5 buck per month until the paper work is complete. But parts are availible if you keep your head up and eyes open.
I also found that any package deals like the ones from HKParts are the way to go. But know that no companies export and its illegal to import without the paperwork, which takes time. It may be possible to order from a Canadian import but again, expect a firm rodgering in regard to the import duties and paperwork (or learn to do it yourself like I did - as I side note I am cheap).
But if you can bear the strain the payoff is awesome. It's one of my favorite rifles (maybe because it took so much work).
Last is, unless you're 6'4 or more, I'd personally recommend straying away from the block or TN extensions. I'm 6'2" and found the LOP to be awkwardly and uncomfortably long. Best of luck.
Here's what mine ended up as from an SL8-5 and its been awesome for a few years now.
