Dominion arms is a make of gun, but they didn't make it either. It was some arsenal in china.

Manufacturer is the chinese state arsenal.

Make is Polytech.

Model is Type 81SA.

I totally get the relationship difference between the manufacturer, and the make. Just like canada ammo has guns made under the "make" dominion arms, but dominion arms isn't the manufacturer.

In their forum, they were saying around Q3 as well. I think this timeframe is of dubious value coming from both sources. But we shall see.

Yeah. Looked what happened recently with those Turkish shotguns that look like AR-15s.

They showed up all of a sudden with ten different names at ten different dealers. With prices ranging from $555 to over $1000.
I can't wait for the storm when these rifles show up. It should be somewhat amusing.

If someone brings in a model with a factory optics rail for $800, and it takes cheap AK mags, I'll probably buy one.

Does anybody else not give a single f**k about this teenage girl drama and just want a T81?

It's not teenage drama. I want a Type 81 just the same as you do and everyone else. I just don't want to be paying price gougers for something that costs nowhere near where it should be, simply because there are idiots who want to pay more.

This thread is not about Tactical Imports, nor is it in their forum. We are discussing the rifle and it's future here in Canada. Though, it's inevitable that some reasonably minded people would voice their concerns over an overpriced product, simply because the company importing them is the "first", there has to be a debate about it.

I'd probably take a wait and see approach ...... See what the finish looks like and what the level of reliability and accuracy is. It's a relative unknown .... The Chinese government says its superior to the AK which the type 81 replaced, but is that nationalistic pride or is it actually superior? How will it compare to the vz 58? For those guys with a 7.62x39 collection of rifles, it likely wouldn't matter, but for guys that would buy this as a stand alone rifle, they might be more concerned with actual performance.

As far as finish, I'm more concerned with with the toughness/resilience of the finish than its beauty.

As far as price, some guys on here have rifles worth thousands of dollars and a $200 difference in price won't mean much to them. My budget is more restrictive and I'd rather buy from canadaammo because I've dealt with them before. However, I think canadaammo has been promising a type 97 for many years that has never materialized ..... So when would a type 81 from canadaammo show up? I'm not really sure.

No frt yet for Canam's version either.

We are still waiting on their version of Type 97 as well.

And that whats scares me, No other FRT's, Who's to say how long the Lab will take to issue one. Look at the M17s its the same gun as the M17 and its been over a years wait... grrrrrrrrrrrr

Yup. Waiting for that one to drop too. And the RPD. And hopefully someone is working on the Nitescout line. But when is always an unknown.

Plenty of other chinese designs in the works, and European, and all waiting on the lab to make a call in our favor.

I could be wrong, but I think the lack of availability of AK mags and good pricing is due to the current lack of demand due to the few rifles in Canada that use them. Everything I've read in U.S. Forums leads me to believe that AK mags are plentiful and cheap there, so I imagine greater demand would likely bring more competitive pricing and availability.

Go look in their forum. Takes 2 seconds to find it. In February they said "about 8 months".

They said it takes about 8 months to get a new gun built, not that they would be getting theirs to market in 8 months. It was a pretty non specific statement.

"FYI my experience has been that it takes about 8 months to get a new gun made and shipped." - Canam

If you were around at the time when CanAm submitted the T97 for inspection, then you know they deserved the complete #### up they did that essentially wiped out their massive import of "unapproved rifles" into the country. Not sure how much they lost but it soured them enough to let North Sylva get an approved version out of the lab quick enough to completely saturate the T97 market in Canada. Thus, CanAm was not heard of since with their own version.

Lever arms surprised many with their LA bullpup shotgun import which was done completely without anyone's foreknowledge, so there is a habit of smaller importers getting things through without anyone knowing. Who knows how many people are vying to get the gun in country, hell, there could be 5 different versions of the same gun by the time everyone gets theirs in. We don't really know.

All I know for sure is two things. 1. Tactical Imports generates hoopla before and when the gun is in their hands to simply gouge "firsters" for money, and 2. The were will be a #### ton of these Type 81's floating around in Canada once they hit our shores by many, MANY different importers and retailers. They all want a piece of the pie which will drive down prices like crazy. Do you all forget what Norinco CQ AR-15's used to sell for, and what they sell for now?

There is a lot of importer competition in canada racing to beat each other to the punch to get their version of Chinese designs to market. Each submitting their own examples, hoping the lab won't declare them full auto or easily converted.

That's a very good point. Lever Arms isn't a sponsor on this site and does some importing under the radar. Plus, They brought in M305's for $400 once when everyone was in the $450 to $500 range too. Maybe the type 81 will show up somewhere unexpected?

Cheers, Just found a .308 on GB.... ;-(

Lol...yes I've seen that one. I would ask the guy to send you pics of the markings and the opposite side to see if the scope mount is original factory M-78-83S.
It is most likely a factory M78 converted at ODIN INTERNATIONAL LTD Alexandria, VA USA as a sniper rifle. From what my friend says they usually go for 3K-4K U.S if its a real factory mount with 2x 20 round mags, cleaning kit etc...I would wait to find a 7.62 but if you collect, then go for it and later another ;)
The real hard one to find is in 7.62x39.
IrunGuns had one just like this one some time ago for sale. I might just bid too...lol... :p
