I'm definately not paying a full pre-order price for TI, if I recall correctly they did this with the famae rifles and missed the delivery date.l by a long shot. Another retailer brought them in without making people preorder and sold a bunch.

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner.

Seriously^^^^^!??!?

I too was on the Famae order, not.to mention the RPD order which is still being waited on YEARS after the fact yet this same #### keeps popping up in the thread.

If people want to order it sweet, if not TS.

People who order it, then say TI can't deliver on the time frame can cancel and get a refund. Be it in a few days or weeks (WTF would that matter to.me if I waited that long for a T81 anyway)!?!?!?

Exactly. There is no penalty for backing out of the Type 81 pre order and getting your money back. If it goes too long then just get a refund. If someone else brings one in and you want to do business with them instead, get a refund.

Losing confidence if that'll be the case. TI has exclusivity with EMEI/Polytech as being the sole distributor in Canada. It's essentially a monopoly on the current rifle FRT that was approved by the RCMP.

I just pulled the trigger on a folder today. We'll see when the rifles come if it was worth it. I was in the camp of "They're scalping us for a gun only they can sell", but it'll probably be the case for many years after they hit our shores. A $1000 is still a ripoff for the rifle, but if you want to play, you have to pay.

They say they have a monopoly. The frt and rcmp have nothing to do with whether they do or don't. If someone else imports this specific version then they just get added to the frt as an importer. Having TI as the only listed importer doesn't mean anything to the ability of others to import the gun here in Canada.

If TI and Polytech have negotiated exclusivity well that is between them and no one else. Contracts get broken all the time so anything is possible.

Did TI not have exclusivity with Famae before another dealer got in on the deal too? Yup. Things happen.

I was meaning that if someone designed their own internals (Like TI did with their specific CAD drawings for the S/A version of the gun), they can import their own version. I look at North Sylva and their T97NSR as an example.

North Sylva also has exclusivity with EMEI for the T97. I haven't seen anyone attempt to get a new contract since they do a massive volume and the gun really isn't a common rifle here in Canada. Maybe if the T81 becomes a huge hit here (Maybe if it were $500), then we'd see things change.

I'm not holding my breath for anything other than the TI version at this point. Other retailers and importers would've made it clear by now.

Emei is a specific factory. Factory 26 in Jianshe. Factory 26 / Emei is also where the Type 81 is coming from. As per TI'S hints.

Others have tried to bring in versions of the Type 97. I think there are now 4 or 5 different models of Type 97 on the frt in various models specific to dealers. Only North Sylva's has been deemed not prohib though.

As for TI's claims of exclusivity on part designs I take that with a grain of salt. China has those drawings too. It wouldn't be the first time China took blueprints originating from this continent and went off on their own.

You pay $1000 dollars now, or later this year, what does it matter ? ultimately you'll end up dishing out the $1000 regardless. If you could put down a small payment now, say $200 cus you need that extra $800 to spend until then.... I'd take that as a sign that you probably cant afford the rifle.

Oh, the 'you can't afford' argument. Given that 9/10 of folks use credit cards for guns, maybe...OR some know it isn't the wisest to pay the full price for products undelivered. Refund. Maybe, unless a company goes out of business. Delays. Inevitable. How many times have we seen this scenario? Or we go straight to the "you're cheap and poor!" shtick.

I don't know about a "ripoff", consider than a new U.S. market stamped Arsenal Inc AK, with all the market competition they have down there, go for at least $1000 also.

They're made in Bulgaria which has a per capita GDP only 10% higher than China's. A EMEI worker could well get paid more than a Bulgarian Arsenal worker for all we know.

They are certainly cheaper options for AKs down there but they are mostly of questionable quality.

I think the big question with the Canadian market Type 81 will be if they are of good quality or not?

It's not a value either. AKs must have certain US parts, so they cost more. If these have AK side rail these are ideal. Nobody will have to pour anything more into this. Just clip on a scope rail. If they are indeed co-designers of this rifle, they can have this done.

Yes but as TI stated the had to redesign the internals of the type 81 aswell.

As for mounting an AK scope mount, don't think that will work with the Type81 as the safety is on the left side of the reciever

That remains to be determined what that means. Ask the factory to remove a hole for a FA sear? Tell them to not cut a trip on the bolt carrier? One less hook on the hammer? It's 'designing' (sort of) but hardly rocket science. It's not like they're supplying parts like in the US.

Greedy capitalists steep of overcharging. One thousand rubles too much cost for five hundred ruble of rifle.

TI mentioned a dust cover rail, although whether it'll hold zero and whether it'll require a modified receiver remains to be seen.

Do i want a Type 81? Yes but cant drop $1000 right now, in fews weeks possibly. I can live with the price. Another dilemma is do i get the rifle or wait for the LMG version(prefered choice) Waiting to see how everything will goes, patience is a virtue and i 'am patient:p

Id just cut off the safety tab on the left side, and tig weld a new tab on the other side (since the the safety appears to be a pin that crosses the entire width of the receiver...) If they are going to consider producing some with side rails, id suggest they equip them with SVD/Universal rails instead of the AK style... most of the side mount scopes available in Canada are SVD and universal.

Valmets did a good job, so I think it could be done right. Just needs to be tight.

Then again, those are high quality Finnish made rifles.
